Crystina's Destiny
Crystina, tell us a few more things about yourself. What is your relationship with the Eurovision Song Contest?
I’m a Spanish singer, I was born in the beautiful island called Gran Canaria and started my career eight years ago when I set up a pop group, since then I’ve performed on many stages.
For me Eurovision is the most important European festival, it’s always very interesting to listen to all the proposals and to see all the idiosyncrasies represented in their performances.
A true relationship with the Eurovision Song Contest started last year when I took part in the Spanish preselection, I was eager to represent Spain in such an important festival and I hope I can achieve my goal this year.
What would it mean to you to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest?
It would mean a lot indeed. I would feel extremely proud if my country chooses me to represent it in this important contest! And as an artist I should say that reaching the audience’s ears is very important for a musician and I think Eurovision is the best way to do it in Europe.
What do you think of the TVE idea to use MySpace this year to select the Spanish entry?
I love this innovative and unrestricted method because it doesn’t matter which genre you play, it allows all the Spanish artists to participate.
If you are given the chance to present yourself in the final, what should we expect to see on stage ?
I think this is a made-to-measure song, it’s perfect for Eurovision. Powerful music and optimist lyrics make it special. I’ll work to do my best! You can expect a great show!!!
Gorgi Kalpakides (composer )
Tell us a few things about the song. What inspired the music?
The 1st idea for this track actually came to mind a long time ago. It came to me during a very creative period in my life. The song itself went through many changes till I was satisfied with the sound I want to give.
How do you think this song differs from the rest in the Spanish pre-selection of 2008 ?
My goal was to present a powerful pop number, something that doesn’t follow any specific trend. It is a composition that allows the singer to give an impressive show on stage apart from performing it. It has a beginning, a middle part and an ending and that’s a very important factor for a song in a competition, in my opinion. This is also the first ever collaboration among Spanish and Greek writers for Eurovision and if will hopefully bring a positive result for the song.
I am really excited about this collaboration and I hope that Crystina is given the chance to participate in the final and show to the public what an amazing performer she is.
Jose J. Santana Rodriguez and Miguel Loredo (lyricists)
Tell us a few things about the lyrics, what are they about?
Miguel: Destiny is a love song, sung from the optimistic point of view of a happy end. It tells the story of a couple that was initially supposed to be broken… but finally they manage to save their love forever because somehow it was written in destiny.
What are your expectations and hopes from this participation in the Spanish preselection?
Miguel: We are quite satisfied just having the opportunity to introduce Crystina and her beautiful voice to the Spanish audience, as well as to a lot of fans from the rest of Europe who are in fact showing some interest in this special preselection procedure. Moreover, Crystina is entering the competition with a powerful and catchy song. We are now in the hands of the voters that will decide but, whatever the final result be, we are extremely satisfied with what we’ve achieved until now.
How did this collaboration with a songwriter from Greece come to happen ?
Jose: I met Georgios several years ago but I had never talked with him, he contacted with me and offered the possibility to work with him in the song Destiny. At the beginning I was not sure because I had a lot of work so I asked Georgios to send me the song, when I listened to it I could not say “no” because Destiny seems to me wonderful, a beautiful song for a powerful voice. So, quickly, we decided with Miguel to work together in this project.
