Czech Broadcaster confirms
Czech Republic will take part in 2008
The Czech Republic will send its second entry to the Contest in 2008, where they will have to start in the semi again due to a non-qualification this year with Kabát, one of the country's top bands. Whether Kabát's 1 point will put off other famous Czech artists for next year remains to be seen. As yet, there is no news over how the Czech entry will be chosen for 2008.
Rumours continue over a possible return of the Czech Republic's brother nation, Slovakia. The Slovak national broadcaster STV sent positive signals to esctoday.com in January, but there has been no additional information from the broadcaster since then. The team at esctoday.com will inform readers as soon as there is reliable information from STV.

Hi Melina, thx for this reaction. Our song was not so bad, but our frontman of group, was on stage at semifinal completely drunk. And our performance was for that reason tragedy!
It's incredible how people can think the Czech entry this year was "crap", just because it was a bit different...! It was such a good song, actually, and I wouldn't blame the Czechs if they felt like withdrawing after that. But they seem to have the right spirit
It is like between Ukraine and Russia, Sweden and Finland, it is normal, when neighbour states hate together. When we are playing icehockey (for example World championat) 95% of Slovakia people want, we losed. It is sad, we builded in Slovakia industry, we earned money on Slovakia, and they have not reverence. They are a little bit primitive.
@David S
why do people in Czech Republic hate Slovakia? That's a rather sad wiew.
Hi, we (CZE) will not give 12 pts from Slovakia and we will not send 12 pts to SVK, because WE HATE SLOVAKIA. But, here live very much of slovakia people, and they will vote for their country. I think, it will be interesting.
Sry for my english, bye ;-)
I don't consider the Czech Republic a country of the Eastern voting block. Only if Slovakia returns, Czechs would likely have points for sure. It seems like other countries like Germany, Poland, Hungary and Austria are not gonna vote the Czechs if what they send is a crap (like this year, and something that happens between ex-Yuga and ex-Soviet states), so that's good!
@ Cristina
Of course, it's a matter of taste. That's exactly what I said. What I concluded was the fact that NO Western country passed the semis or scored higher than an Eastern country in the finals. Perhaps you think the East had better songs than the West, perhaps you think Macedonia was better than Germany. Of course, I consider Greece and Turkey as nations which profit of the diaspora voting - hello!
You think people are exaggerating with the "Eastern power"? Well, perhaps you need another year of every Western nation ending in the bottom until you finally understand. But I fear that no Western country will take this competition serious any longer by having NO chance... And then there will be a reason that they are ending in the bottom...
@ Ana
The bloc and diaspora voting was a process which found its highlight this year. We found the Eastern power also in 2005 and 2006, but there were a few exceptions. And as long as there were exceptions, nobody complained about it. I think I wouldn't have complained if only ONE SINGLE Western nation would have passed the semis - Portugal was close to it...
@ it's me
oh really? 100 % of Ireland's great four points came from an Eastern jury? Not bad. And the 18 % of the German points were also given by the Albanian jury, weren't they? And it's similar regarding the other examples which you've given, I suppose...
well, after this year... the only way is up.

'perfect job'??? Yes, Bulgaria had one of the best songs this year, but in the semi Elitsa was out of tune and out of breath for more than half of the song. I really wanted them to go to the final, but after the semi performance it was plain injustice that they did!
Max;
The Eastern countries DO vote for the Western. A quick analyze of the final:
100% of Ireland's points were from East.
58% of the French points came from East.
40% of Spansh points came from East.
23% of Finland's points were from East.
18% of the points from Germany came from East.
Sweden got no points from the East, but in those countries never expirenced the glam rock era, so it's not so strange if The Ark didn't appeal to them. And UK... I don't need to explain...
But as u see, it's not totally hopeless!
Oh, and thank you Czech Republic for not withdrawing! :-)
@ Max
This is all a matter of taste. I agree about Andorra and I think Iceland should have qualified, but Portugal and The Netherlands in my opinion were not good enough to qualify, not to speak about Norway, Austria, Belgium... Nice songs, but they weren't as good as most of the ones which have qualified. As for the final, in my opinion France and Germany would have deserved more, but the UK was terrible, and Spain was the usual, nice spanish song. Finland won last year, and next year will have to compete in the semifinal again. Greece won two years ago: is Greece also part of the Eastern block? I think people are exagerating this "Eastern power". This year the eastern countries have generally sent better songs - that's all.
@ Ana
Ireland and Malta and all the other countries don't think about withdrawing because of one bad result.
They think of it because they've watched the Contest in the latter years and out of this everyone who has the will to see it CAN see that the Western countries don't have a chance to win anymore, not even a chance to score halfway high - it doesn't matter what they send.
I mean, girl, remember: no Western country passed the semis, the remaining seven in the finals were also the Bottom seven. Portugal, Netherlands and Andorra should have passed, Switzerland, too, because of DJ Bobo's superstar status, and in the finals France, Germany and Sweden should have been much higher. Anyway, we have no chance anymore and if this stupid Swedish man doesn't change anything, it really would make more sense that the Western countries withdraw... I mean, of course it's a game, but nobody likes to enter a competition which is lost before it has started and not because of vertitude, but only because of the name of the country which you are representing...
I went to Prague in 2005 and I was surprised by the music-presence in streets, so I think Czechs can bring a very good song to Eurovision. But depsite Kabat is a fmous band, it's a very specific style which just like to people who is used to listen to hard rock and metal music. Anyway, it's stupid to say that the only point the czech Rep. received was because the ex-USSR and ex-Yuga kind of voting, especially when that point was given by Estonia. About the returning of Slovakia, it would be good, and I loved its entry in 1998 despite the 21st place.
Good luck to the czech Republic in Belgrade then; I really expect a good song from there!
@ana s

GIVIN UP AFTER JUST ONE BAD PERFORMANCE IS A BAD IDEA -

I hope for Slovakia!
That's great news!
Many other countries had quite bad debuts as well, that doesn't mean they cannot be successful!
In my opinion, it's silly when an artist fears to participate for its country just because his forerunner did badly.
I mean, look at Finland- so many desasters and finally....
Hope to her something good from CZ next year!
Anyway, the more songs, the more good songs! Welcome, CR!
I want Slovakia back.... Yess.. It will be good. 8-10 or 12 points to Hungary. It will be great.
Czech Rep. was extremely bad in 2007. What a pity. I really hope they will send a good song in 2008.
Well I for one thought Kabát rocked and were far from the worst acts on stage in Helsinki. Maybe fans didn't like them coz they didn't have a drum machine, key-change or a dance routine! ;-)
if kabat are one of czech republic's top bands, i dread to think who else is famous
Well done Czech Republic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great :-) Good luck czech Republic :-)
i do not think that they will be exchanging the points...it will be more Hungary Slovakia, of corse Slovakia giving the points to Hungary
I hope Slovakia and Czech Republic wont be the new Greece-Cyprus.Best of luck to both countries and I hope they do well in Eurovision.
