She hopes to bring her Viisumania show to Helsinki

Laura is claiming back her schlager crown

Laura Voutilainen (Finland 2002 with Addicted to you) has survived the Finnish show business already for 12 years even if she has been making some controversial choices. Lately she has been doing a stage show Viisumania based on Eurovision that she hopes to bring to Helsinki in May, and will return to schlager with the release of the new album Kosketa mua this month.

Laura is known for her great voice and showwomanship. There are not many artists in Finland who do these big productions in Las Vegas style. Danny brought them to Finland in 1970’s and Marion has been the leading lady in this scene until late 1980’s. “There aren’t many places where we can still do these shows. Grand Casino in Helsinki has been a pleasant surprise and this spring it has had a full house every night!” Laura tells. “Even the big concerts are going a bit better lately but Finns have funny habits of attending these - that means in autumn only for some reason.”

Laura has been heard a lot on the  radio lately, too. After her participation in Euroviisut 2007 with Kosketa mua and Take a chance (4th place) also the first single from forthcoming album Rakkautta ei piiloon saa (You can’t hide love) has reclaimed her schlager crown from newer artists. “The new album is made for my fans, it’s a step back to pop and schlager, but not only that” she describes. “Maki Kolehmainen has worked with many other writers on this album from various countries like Russia, so their influences will be heard on it.”

With this new album Laura will return to be the favourite of the whole music loving audience instead of her die hard fans only. She is also a true gay icon in Finland and proud of it. After her engagement onboard she will give an acoustic concert with a guitarist and piano player in Pub Britannia in Helsinki on April 14, and the album launch party will be in Lux Nightclub in Helsinki on April 26.

It's nice to know there plenty of us out here who love this song. It's one of my favourites of all time and definitely the one that makes me smile the most. Unbelievably catchy - more like this please.

@ MM MM, you're wrong, about her not liking the song at least...

I remember the Finnish tabloid headlines after esc 2002, Laura saying "I cried, cried, cried"... She really did expect a better result...

All I've seen and heard of her outside Eurovision was great. I still can't understand why she looked so ugly in 2002, singing such a horrible song. It's still for me the worst song ever participated in Eurovision. Hope she would never sing something like that again. And if you look at her face during this performance at the contest, you'll see that she doesn't like it herself as well. She was obviously forced by some producers to sing that waste.

Laura you're GREAT! Thanks for sending me the remix of 'Addicted to you'. I wonder if they still play this great song in the Hercules in Helsinki.

I really like her performance back in 2002. Just so full of enery, and a really good voice. part from those sandals, everything was quite ok, and she should've been top 10. My favourite also this year but unfortunatelly, she didn't win.

Since WHEN does YLE have a "blue and white demand" as dresscode for their eurovision performers??
I don´t think Mr. Lordi vore that hat out of a compromise. He wore it for fun.

Laura should have dressed and performed in 2002 the same way as in the National Final, not give in to YLE's dress in blue and white demand.Anyone read that Mr.Lordi was prepared to withdraw if they insisted on that in 2006?Hence that hat he wore at start of performance in Athens - as a compromise.

Her two songs in this year's Finnish ESC- preselection were totally weak.
But i really love her song of 2002 "Addicted to you". To me, it was one of the best songs that year, I'm still listening to it today. Furthermore, her performance was great too, her bad result in the end was really unfair.

With a better stageshow she would have placed better with "Addicted to you", surely there was nothing wrong with the song.
Her performance with "Take a chance" in the national selection was very classy, but there were stronger acts this year: Hanna! :)

@ chi chi, you say the same thing in almost every thread... And then you get upset when people say so... (insert rolling eyes -smiley here)

Most ESC news are local news, actually, so please stop saying that if you don't have anything more sensible to say...

She was 2nd best (behind France) in 2002 and that Addicted to You came 20th is a travesty of voting!!
