Montenegrin's Scottish roots
Scots vote for Stevan?
Speaking on the way to Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of his promotional tour, Stevan spoke about his family's proud tradition of honouring their Scottish roots. "Everyone in our family always talks about our famous ancestor, William Faddy, who came here in the Crusades with King Richard, fell in love with a local girl, and decided to stay.".
A lot sunnier here...
Stevan admits he might understand his ancestor's willingness to stay in Montenegro: "It is a lot sunnier than in Scotland, I am told" he says. Nonetheless, his family still honour their ancestral past: "We still have the family coat of arms and other memorabilia, even though it was hundreds of years ago. We also have a Scottish flag at home" he continues.
Stevan became Montenegro's first independent performer at the contest this year after the country formally and peacefully split from Serbia. He will present Hajde kroci to the international audience at the semifinal this May.

Austria cannot be compared with Montenegro this year. Any country can!
It must be said that Scotland is more than welcome etc.
Nobody would have known if that message hadn't been posted. Even new small countries need black advertisement.
@w s
I had written a post that was almost word by word identical to yours! Great minds etc.
I don't think that many Scots will vote for him only becuase he has Scottish heritage.
The song is just HORRIBLE, so horrible that it hardly will get any points. I cannot imagine that there are so many hardcore nationalists out there who will support this tasteless song- he won't get over twenty points!
I like my country, I really do. But without a few exceptions, I would have never voted for Austria. This year, Austria doesn't deserve to be in the final, either. I hope it'll end up being one of the last. The best country in terms of music and performance is supposed to win- and the one with the highest amount of citizens living in other countries!
hey yeah i heard that scotland may be eligible to send its own song to eurovision. .... I think it is only a matter of time befroe scotland is an independent country......... god I can just see Lorraine Kelly all fabulous presenting the show from the banks of the Clyde!!
I think I'll join my fellow Scots by saying that I won't be voting for this one. It's one of the few songs this year where I have very few nice things to say about it.
Actually there is one good thing about it: the intro's pretty good. It's when he starts singing that it all goes horribly wrong.
It will take more than a few tartan votes to get this dirge into the final.
When you her 'Montenegro', what does it make you think of? I think of No Name and Casino Royale
It is not completey obvious that he has a Scotish heritage. I have always thiought his name sounded irish
What happened in 2005 was incredible!
Totally. Omar was robbed, plain and simple.
I can't understand that. I'm Spanish, but if I were living for example in Belgium, I wouldn't have voted to Spain in 2004, 2005 and 2006... Even living here, Spain is not one of my 10 favourite ESC countries, so...
Hope that all those Montenegrins living outside Motnenegro won't vote for this horrible song. I prefer No Name a thousand times mroe than thissss!!
Serbia rules this year, and it will be good even without the neighboring or diaspora votes. About Slovenia... I really hope seeing it qualifying... What happened in 2005 was incredible!
More probably will Montenegrin people abroad vote for Stevan than Scottish people. In Slovenia there are quite a lot people with Montenegrin roots and those I know are very proud on that so it wouldn't surprise me they will vote for Montenegro. Song is good, maybe not so ambitious as No name's songs but still it's much more listenable than many of songs this year. Sretno Crna Gora!
Go CRNA GORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Better to come last as an independent nation than first with Serbia.
Montenegro or not... MALTA STILL THE RUNAWAY WINNER OF THE BIGPOLL! Cheers all
We'll probably give our 'imaginary' 12 points to Ireland
Just wait and see who wins the Elections on May 3rd; if we get a new government in power at Holyrood things may change...
Bring up the old debate - Campaign for a Scottish Eurovision Entry!
I realise we currently have no 'national' broadcaster, the closest being BBC Scotland and STV's associate membership of the EBU because of making up part of the BBC and ITV respectively, but its a fun idea, don'tcha think? Say if we eventually became independent, it would be fantastic to see a Saltire added to the Eurovision flags. We could even get Lorraine Kelly to read our votes!
The song will get last together with Albania and Austria.
Even the neighbour countries won't give Montenegro too many points, I seriously doubt it!
I mean, the song is nothing but crap and has no meaning.
Noone will pay attention to it among all the other great songs.
For those, who don't like Serbia's song: Of course, it's impossible that everyone likes this ballad but it cannot be denied that Marija has a powerful voice and that this lyrical song has- in contrast to Montenegro- high quality!
I predict Serbia as second but a victory isn't unrealistic...
To conclude:
Serbia- top
Montenegro- FLOP!
People, let's be realistic. This song is bad both rhytmically and textually, but the rhytm is quite better than the actual words. Whoever wrote this song, he doesn't have a sense about life. Come on, saying DJEVOJKO just to sound that it comes from Montenegro doesn't make sense.I have nothing against Montenegro, but hey, very bad and I don't know who it will get higher votes from except Serbia and Albania...and maybe Scotland
There's nothing worst than Montenegro this year, Ramón. Maybe you don't like Serbia's song, but it has force, quality and a great singer... What does Montenegro have? ... Honestly, I think even Las Ketchup last year were better than this guy; at least you could laugh at them. Oh, and we can not compare Serbia with Montenegro since they have nothing in common, in any case, Serbia could be compared with Armenia or Bosnia&Heregovina, and Montenegro with... Austria, maybe?
I take advantge of this news to say that I prefer the song from Montenegro to the Serbian one. I am really shocked because this web readers are so crazy about the song of Serbia. I can't understand it. The are a lot of better entries than Serbia.
Hey Djamila, how's it going? Togravus asked me to pass on to you his kind regards (you've helped him with some music, didn't you) but you were offline and you display no contact mail - so there. :-)
RE Montenegro's entry - well, they wanted to go their separate way, fine, here we have the first result. Good luck to them - they'll need it.
Yet another reason not to vote for him, hahaha.
I have to uphold the honor of the medieval Bosnian Church - I can't vote for someone whose ancestors helped in the crusaders' efforts to "erradicate the Bosnian heresy".
Also, now it would appear Stevan Faddy is at least, in some abstract way, a Western European and that would explain the quality of his song.
Just teasing.
Ahahahahahaha - whatever. Good luck Crna Goro.
His Scottish roots was just something that was talked about during the interview. I don't think it is very strange to talk about such things. Especially since his name doesn't sound like he is from the Balkan, so it is pretty obvious that an interviewer asks about that. And maybe he hopes that a few Scottish people will vote for him, but of course he knows that won't make the difference. It is not that he claims he can win with the help of the Scottish voters. Is was surely an innocent remark made during the interview, but as usual lots of people think too much of it.
