Veteran & newcomer
Siegel & Cicero receive ECHO awards
Roger Cicero was awarded best male national artist for his first album Männersachen. Reamrkably, he was also nominated as best newcomer, but didn't receive that award. His producers Matthias Hass & Frank Ramond were presented as best producers - among other they have also written Frauen regier'n die Welt.
Ralph Siegel got one of the most special awards, in the lifework category. In 1974, he competed in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time: he composed Bye bye I love you for Luxembourg, which finished 4th, sung by Ireen Sheer. He went on to compose no less than 18 entries to the contest, most of them for Germany. In 1982 he achieved his only victory with the German song Ein bißchen Frieden, performed by Nicole. In 2006, his song If we all give a little finished in a disappointing 16th place for Switzerland.
Rosenstolz have competed in the 1998 German national final with Herzensschöner - they finished second after Guildo Horn. Nevertheless, they went on to become one of the most popular German bands. Yesterday, they were even awarded for being the best selling one!
Among the other nominees, further Eurovision Song Contest related acts can be found: Texas Lightning, last year's German representatives could be found in the category best song with their entry No no never. Monrose (Even heaven cries), who competed in the 2007 German final were nominated both in the categories best national newcomer (along with Roger Cicero!) and best national group. MIA. took part in the 2004 national final with Hungriges Herz. In 2006, they released Zirkus, their third and most succesful album as well as Tanz der Moleküle, their most sold single so far. MIA. were nominated both as best alternative group (national) and nest national live act.
Below, you can watch the multilingual version of Ein bißchen Frieden, sung by Nicole in 2003.

@ Yannis
The song is similar to Max in 2004??
You must live in a parallel universe...
@Luigi:
I want to see YOU on stage.
if you dont like the song- ok.
but i think that one should give respect to people who will perform in front of millions of people.
wo haben sie den den rausgelassen?
He's half Romanian if you don't know that.I like the song very much
Roger good luck from Romania and who learned you that Frauen Regier´n Die Welt ?????
This song and performance are growing a lot on me! Good luck Germany
I´m very happy, to hear some people don´t see any potential in this song when they see it "very similar to the 2004 country's (german) entry". As musicexperts their opinions just seems to be useless.
Amazing song!
Well done Germany!
Excellent performer. Average song. Not a high result for Germany this year, but a very great choice in my opinion.
Aviva: I understand what you mean, teeth and all. ;-)
I like the actual song too, I haven't just fallen for the style. If it was Harry Connick Jr nobody would have raised an eyebrow. And anyway, Germans steadily add to ESC diversity and they do it with intent, which can't be a bad thing. They utilise their straight-to-final property better than any other big 4 country imo.
Well the song it's very similar to the 2004 country's entry. But definitelly the 2004 was much much better. Don't see any potential. I believe we will see Germany in the last 5 places.
Vote if you dare yo ur favourite entry and your favourite semifinal entry to url=http://eurovisionfun.blogspot.com]http://eurovisionfun.blogspot.com/url]
Darko, I appreciate the song but I don't like it. There's a difference. To understand what I mean I guess you have to be off baby food and have milk teeth too
Good to hear Siegel was honoured for his work. Love him or not, you can't deny that he's had an impact on ESC (not sure about German music industry in general since I am not German, but it's likely he has).
Hehe, thanks Togravus. I hope the remaining 1% is not too obnoxious...
Cheers from Serbia. :-)
@ darko
i love almost all your comments and agree with 99 % of what you write.
cheers from germany
Yes, I suppose in order to appreciate the German song, you generally need to be off baby food and have milk teeth at least.
He, he... nice words flyinf flag
@ Stephen Garrow !!!
I like you. Except for Serbia and France, you have the same countries on your top list as mine.
Hopefully top ten finish for Germany this year.
My points in the final would be at the moment :
1 point....FYR Macedonia
2 points....Sweden
3 points....Latvia
4 points....Germany
5 points....Spain
6 points....Ireland
7 points....France
8 points....Serbia
10 points....Greece
12 points....Switzerland
Good luck Roger...like the German entry this year...But i'm not sure how far this song will go...
Then again...i don't see any clear favourite this year so anything can happen....exiting hu?...
What you sell 100.000s of copies when you are about to lose in May? So, the buyers of his records are old people which in general don't watch to esc across Europe.
Same opinion as JOHN.
Although Roger didn´t perform as good as on the german national final last night.
Ralph Siegel was so moved, he couldn´t even speak.
One of the best performers in Helsinki. Even if it doesn't get many votes in May, I'm glad our German friends show that they've got taste and have chosen a quality entry this year.
I'm afraid there will be none (awards) in May...
congrats Roger excellent performer
