According to OGAE Germany

CZECH REPUBLIC WITHDRAWS

Czech Republic withdraws from the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest, leaving 40 countries behind on the list of participants for the upcoming festival. OGAE Germany's Marco Brey reported that, based on a statement from the Czech broadcaster.
Czechoslovak Television (predecessor of the current national broadcaster Ceská Televize) broadcasted the Eurovision Song Contest once or twice in the late 60’s. Later, non participation was partly connected with political changes in former Czechoslovakia and, after 1989, with the financial situation of the Czech broadcaster. As a reason to withdraw, the Czech broadcaster explained that they already have two big events planned in 2005. To avoid a situation in which they have to spread attention over three shows, they decided to withdraw from the 50th Eurovision Song Contest. Earlier, Ondrej Sramek of Ceská Televize said to esctoday.com that the audience share for the Eurovision Song Contest would be 15% in the first year they would broadcast it, whereas a share of 20% would be achieved with a Czech contestant. Withdrawing from the 2005 contest also means the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) does not have to worry about a list with too many participants. According to the rules, only 40 (and not 41, as on the provisional list of participants issued in November) countries can participate. With this withdraw, the list counts exactly 40 countries. Countries can still withdraw until 15th December without further consequences. Nevertheless, the Czech public broadcaster already speaks about a possible return in 2006.

In 2006, Czechoslovakia, Lebanon and Italy are in Eurovision 2006.

I think finances are a pretty lame excuse. It's a great shame the Czechs won't be there (again) and the map of ESC Europe will be weird with a gap right in the middle where the CR should be. Anyway, less words, more action...hopefully they will be present in 2006.

OK, she's not a great singer, but neither was Sakis and look how well he did :) But if they could find her a song as good as A Little Bit Of Action she could beat Lebanon who are almost certain to win.

I recommend you refer to me in the name I use on the comment to which you are reffering, because I'm not AJ, Dana or K2 as a lot of people link me to ;)

I would love to see Nadia Almada doing eurovision. Would we get twelve points from Portugal? Lets hope so. Hey! Maybe the U.K. should just get a singer from another country every year and then we might actually do well.

Adrian B. :

I don't WANT them to see them at ESC, those are just my personal opinions, of some of my fave artists....

And by the way, I really liked Madalina Manole's "Viata In Doi"... Quite a touching song, although I can't understand a word of it...

And to Blyere/K2/Aphid/Cyran International, I certainly hope Lebanon will walk the ESC next year!!! Would be cute to see the ESC 2006 from Beirout!

Are you sure you don't mean UK, it's just Foi Magia was great (well, I liked it, but 2003 *yuck* was really popular)

Portugal should withdraw too. At least we wouldn't be embarrassed as usual.

Lebanon won't be so stupid as to withdraw because they know they'll walk it ;)

But I would definitely like to see for United Kingdom Nadia Almada, for France Helene Segara, for Ireland Roberta (X Factor :)) for Turkey Gokhan Ozen, for Ukraine Ani Lorak, for Israel Rinat Bar or Dana International, for Poland Dorota Rabczewska and for Romania Sanda Ladosi or Hara. There's also a Lithuanian singer who did a cover version of A Little Peace in Lithuanian a couple of years ago but I forget his name :( And Maybe Wim Soutaer for Belgium :)

And again it's me, sorry to flood this board with my posts...

Some of the artists of every country I'd like to see for some countries, minus the countries that already selected their representatives..

Bulgaria - Petra, Kamelia, Azis

Belgium - Kim 'Kay ( poor thing, I hope she survives her fight against cancer!!!)
Portugal - Santamaria
Spain - Monica Naranjo, Aventura (originally from the Dominican Republic)
France - Nolwenn Leroy, Helene Segara
Norway - Elisabeth Andreassen
Finland - Hanna Pakkarinen
Russia - Avraam Russo, Valeria
Romania - Elena Carstea, Madalina Manole, Andreea Balan
Poland - Goya, D-Bomb
Iceland - BJORK!!!
Ireland - The Corrs, The Cranberries (they would be for sure something different!!!)
United Kingdom - Girls Aloud, Natasha Bedingfield
Albania - Rovena Dilo, Xheki, Adelina Ismaili
Israel - Dana International (!!!), Maya Buskila, Michal Amdurski...

Ok, That's it with me flooding this part of the forum!!! :-D

Oops! sorry!!!

It was "drusus 1" who said that he/she expected that Hungary would've pulled out!

Although I agree with Scott Earp, It would certainly be sad if Hungary and/or Lebanon pulled out! Hungary because they already have somekind of ESC history ( a very well deserved 4th place with Friderika Bayer!!!), and Lebanon, because they have such rich musical traditions, and such a very smart way of blending Euro-Ameri pop music into Arab traditional/pop music!

To Angelos N:
I also agree with you, it sounds like a very BAD excuse to withdraw from the ESC, because they already have 2 big events planned. Countries like the Netherlands, Spain, maybe even Germany or Danmark, (Ok, they ARE richer "per capita" ;) also have big events planned, maybe even more than 2!!! But they ARE entering, no matter what...

2 different views on this:

- Sad to see a new country saying in the end to withdraw...
- 1 country less to participate in that despicable "Eastern-European-Bloc" political voting.

I have to agree with Scott Earp though, I also expected Hungary to withdraw...

Concerning Lebanon, PLEASE!!! Stay in!!! Would be so nice to see you in Kiev 2005! I, in my point of view, sincerely hope that Lebanon will sing their song in Arabic, and that their song will be extremely catchy and pop-yish. That because Lebanon has an extremely big share in the Arab music market, with loads of singers, and lots of modern-sound music! The Lebanese are very good in making extremely catchy pop-tunes (almost always a very extremely good mix between European Pop music an Arabian sounds...)
Although BULGARIA is good at it as well!

As the Lebanese singer is like confirmed ( Aline Lahoud, which is some sort of "new" to the music business), My reccomendations for Bulgaria about who I'd like to see them sending to Kiev for them -

Kamelia, Azis, Ivana, Desi Slava, Petra, Karizma, Valya Balkanska (traditional Bulgarian music, certainly NOT commercial, but very different though!!) or Ruslan (no, NOT RuslanA, but RUSLAN, he had a very good Bulgarian remix of Tarkan's Simarik/Kiss Kiss song).

Anyway, Bulgaria has lot's of very capable artists to get them through the semi-finals! (In my eyes though...)

Yes, would be interesting to know these two " big events " ;) - but let s have some newcomer/returners for 2006 ....maybe the Czechs together with Slovakia ? That would be great :)

Hope there won t be another withdraw now - There are rumours about Hungary, but I hope they aren t true !
