France: a CD single and a DVD from Patricia Kaas

The promotional campaign around Patricia Kaas goes on. As previously announced, a DVD with her concert Kabaret was released last week.

The show includes most of the songs from the studio album but also her greatest hits, which have been re-arranged on purpose. Another good piece of news is the commercial release of the French entry on CD single. Long before the contest, her management declared that "the song will only be commercialized on CD single if it wins the contest".

The other track that can be found on the record is La dernière fois, the song dedicated to her mother... Oh I would like to see you again Mama, a very last time. We didn’t talk about love together, that's why I'm singing...

" I'm still shocked that some juries ignored Patricia! " i m not shocked beacuse jurys are no so innocent, for example Ukraine got many points from jurys ,for me only 2 reasons is coming to my mind ( beacuse that wasnt a song to be voted by expert musicians) , or some countreys pay some jury members or that " expert " jurus dont know anything about music !

the song was beautiful and patricia the best artist of 2009 but it wasn't appropriate for eurovision. i mean it was too french and would have suited better in 90s. this is the reason it didn't well in my opinion, plus the early draw maybe. I'm still shocked that some juries ignored Patricia!

........Continuation of the previous writing.
Lordi - I can not say neutral opinion about Lordi, because I am Finnish and victory was so important to us. Long - awaited victory.
Maybe some saw it was just a show. Lordi ( Tomi Putaansuu ) himself says, it opened the doors of different types of music.

In 2006 there was Lordi and Silvia Night. After that it is gone a little crazy sometimes.

" What a pity that Eurovision IS NOT ANY MORE A SONG CONTEST "

In my opinion ESC is moving in a better direction now.
Thanks to Andrew Lloyd Webber, Alexander Rybak, Patricia Kaas ( for example )
Show failed this year ( Czech, Belgium, Ukraine ). I do not understand how two years ago Ukraine and Verka Serduchka came in second.

The lyrics of the "Et s'il fallait le faire " are really beautiful, poetic and Patricia Kaas makes an excellent interpretation of it.A worthy purchase !
What a pity that Eurovision IS NOT ANY MORE A SONG CONTEST!
Soon it will be difficult to distinguish ESC from the
Festival Internacional du Cirque de Monte Carlo!
Or perhaps it is becomming it "childish" version.

i feel so sad about Air France accident :(

Tbh I really don't like Et s'il fallait le faire but Patricia is a fantastic performer who definitely deserved her top 10 :) In a way its a shame she didn't have a more ballad-by-numbers sort of song, because she probably would have done alot better :)

i did not expect her to win, but i did expect more jury votes for her. Of course a competition with only ballads in her style would be boring. But Patricia herself does never did sing in just one style or tempo. So what's the point ?
But never forget - it's much easier for simple sing-along happy pop songs to get people to vote for it. Even the ballads from Iceland and UK had positive atmosphere, though having a sad content. Whereas the French entry was very "moll" and melancholic. It's much more difficult to capture peoples votes with dark mood song - even though it may be as beautiful as this entry was.

Ernst - how dare you refer to the UK (Jade) as trashy and classless. YOU don't know what you are talking about.

Patricia Kaas had a beautiful song for France, no matter what the result was !
That is what a songcontest is about, a good song, OK: the emotions and a good voice: that counts too. No "circus" acts !

Patricia was this year's winner. Clean, fair and square. Bold period.

The other singers that could have been on top 5 with her were Nelly Ciobanu from Moldova, Malena Ernman, Armenian sisters, Israeli duo and the german guy. These entries had vocals, they knew how to sing and they were very clean when singing. Seems to me they were the only one along with Estonian singer who had normal musical education. The rest of the participants were trashy, classless, especially the ones from Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Turkey.

She has a fantastic voice but i would have liked to hear a more up-tempo song from france this year :)

Dear Malte Abapinave, I have an explanation to the ones who dissed you: they have bad taste (or else your German is poor, but that´s a hypothesis I can not conceive as true, let me explain myself). You´re just... prolific. Adorably prolific.
"Not one point supporting this year's French entry appears to be really valid to me (except her decent voice)" Oh, how adorable! I second what you said!

@JOHN today

I'm not a Swing fan at all, but that musical arrangement by Matthias Hass might have been the best one in ESC history. It probably delivered more notes than all other songs as a whole. Brass section was "through-composed" and non-repetitive, as far as I remember. Since Cicero was an experts' favourite then, it would be very interesting to see how he would come out today in jury voting.

@Tanskalainen Sinisorsa (Venusian Lady)

To be honest, sometimes I am shocked myself when suddenly realizing that this nasty huge amount of words in esctoday layout is my own one. Recently I posted another even much more monstrous comment in a German blog and was promptly dissed. Some people felt repelled and asked me not to generate such perverted infinite preaching on music aesthetics any more. But believe it or not: I obtained some positive reaction, too.

It just depends what you call classy. Germany's Roger Cicero was classy too, but a completely different style.

@ John
Yes classy, but if all songs are the same style, that's not ESC any more, especially that kind of song which Kaas had, I think that 40 songs like "Et sil fallait le faire" is too much!!

Nothing wrong with all competitors being classy! Doesn't mean they're all he same, you must agree with that, Cindy.
Anyway, anyone is entitled to voice their own opinion, but I do like these messages to be reasonable. :)

John

Your words: Wouldn't it be great if all competitors in the ESC were as classy as the wonderful Patricia Kaas!

What a memory. You started to talk about all competitors.
It was not me that started. Be satisfied, i do like her voice and she can sing. Nothing more to argue about.

JOHN today [10570]
Mon 1 Jun 2009 16:59:19

Dear Cindy, what you are saying goes for all songs: even if they're good, twenty songs that are the same would be boring. But that's not very realistic, is it. And why is it necessary then to keep sending the same old message in every thread about this song? Gets just as 'boring' as the songs in that contest you were imagining.

An absolutely stunning performance - although not that appealing to everybody, obviously. At least I have the satisfaction of having rewarded it with my vote :)

Even if you didn't know Patricia before, even if you didn't like her song,... one must admit she was very charismatic on stage and that she's a magnificent singer.

For those who want to know what's quality for example: if you understand some French, read the lyrics. They're magnificent and "high-leveled"

Malte Abepinavi, I´ll do what Lina love´s Norway once did and ask you "could you summarize?" :P (I´m joking, I´m joking)

Axel kearns is right, live and let live. I still prefer Tellier´s enchanting song to Kaas übber melancholic *coughing* smoky tune.

I voted for France this year! I was moved by her performance.

I agree with you Malte. Everyone is wntitled top his/her own decision. And it's not because someone loves Patricia kaas and her song that it means it's quality..... Live and let live. I absolutely adored this year French entry but that's because I know the singer for over 15 years, always loved her and so I am biased.... but I can understand that for people who never heard of her before that her song came accross as odd, boring or whatever,....
