Sweden: Jill Johnson back with new material

Last October, popular country singer Jill Johnson, who represented Sweden at the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham with Krleken r, a ballad inspired by the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, released a new album entitled Baby blue paper.

The title of the album comes from some fan mail Jill received years ago, written on baby blue paper by an eleven year old girl with a touching story. Together with well known song writers like Liz Rose, Lori McKenna, Rachel Thibodeau and Rebecca Lynn Howard, Jill has co-writen all the songs on her new album. The album was brought to life during Jill’s trips to Nashville, the home of country music and was produced by famous Nashville producers Scott Baggett and Tom Harding.

Baby blue paper was released on October 22nd in Sweden and has already managed to gain lots of success, just like Jill's previous recordings.

The first single Top of the world, released two months ago, went straight to the top of all radio charts. Jill Johnson can rightfully be described as one of Sweden’s most established artists, having released an impressive record of successful albums and being known for her strong yet emotional voice, as well as her flawless and touching live performances.

Having decided to become a singer at a very early age, Jill was engaged into lots of musical activities during growing up.However, her big breakthrough finally emerged in 1998 when she won Melodifestivalen and therefore went on to represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham with the ballad Kärleken är (Love is), composed by Håkan Almqvist and Bobby Ljunggren and penned by Ingela 'Pling' Forsman. The song has a deep and special meaning to it as it was inspired by the unexpected death of Diana, Princess of Wales. In the Eurovision Song Contest, Jill managed to reach 10th place with a total of 53 points.

Jill tried to win Melodifestivalen for a second time in 2003 with the hit Crazy in love, which brought her 4th place in the final and remained # 1 in the Swedish Top Charts (Svensktoppen) for twelve consecutive weeks. In the same year, Jill also released Discography, a best of- album which sold Gold in Sweden and brought Jill a Grammy. The two follow- up albums Roots and wings, Being who you are and The woman I've become were equally successful in the charts. In 2005, Jill played the role of the host of Melodifestivalen and also released a Christmas album entitled The Christmas in you which went gold within a week, similar to its’ predecessors. This Christmas album was re- released on November 19th, 2008 with a re- vamped booklet and two brand- new tracks. In 2007, Jill released Music Row, named after the centre of country music industry in Nashville. The album contains a lot of Jill’s own favourite songs, including three duets and again sold gold in less than a week and platinum shortly after.

Jill’s latest hit, Top of the world:

Agnes is the winner of Idol 2005, while the other artists have already been in MF.
Marie Serneholt (A*teens, Måns Z's girlfriend) is tipped to be the third wildcard. How great! :D

I absolutely adore that entry but the styling was awful. Jill was wearing those horendous ugly black shoes that made her look like one of the X-men, and that in contrast with that beautiful simple song. That song only needed the singer, rather underdressed with her backings around her like Maria did for Serbia. But like I said, love the song,.... and also loved Crazy in love.

And I don't think she'll come back to Eurovision... not at the moment anyway. She's doing so much other stuff

"Kärleken är" is an amazing song"! One of my favourite Swedish entries, I would even say one of my favourite ESC entries in general :)

She's a great singer

Should have got a much higher position in Birmingham '98.

She should try Eurovision again

Aww Jill... some artists never get older. She is amazing as always, one of the few artists with a really outstanding voice!

Kärleken är is one my very favourite Eurovision songs ever, still :) A timeless classics, just like Jill's music is timeless!

I love the song, but I hope she will not come to MF, because it can be bad for her carreer if she fails ( ex. The Ark). So Jill go on singing super songs and having platinum albums/singles :)
