Ireland: Dana becomes a talent show judge

Dana, Ireland's representative and winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1970, was announced today as one of five judge's for a new tv talent show in Ireland.

The All Ireland Talent Show a brand new talent show to start in the new year by RTÉ, the Irish broadcaster, announced the selection of judges today. Each of the judges will represent a region of the country in the nationwide competition.

The judges will pick and mentor the best five acts from their regions which will go forward to the live stage of the competition early next year. The acts will then compete for the grand prize of €50,000. Each judge will also have two advisors to help them make their decision.

The show promises to be Ireland's biggest ever country-wide talent contest.

As an unknown schoolgirl, Dana became an overnight star as Ireland's first winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, beating out internationally recognised singers such as Julio Iglesias of Spain and the UK's Mary Hopkin.

"The show promises to be Ireland's biggest ever country-wide talent contest."

Hmm... well if she is picking the finalists, it's certainly not going to be Ireland's most inclusive country-wide talent contest.

@ Martin McCullan

I just read your Profile - i agree with your dislikes of "I wanna" and "Everybody" - IMO, totally undeserving winners.

I dont recall the acts being supported regionally or having mentors on Britains got talent

Britains got talent also very like Opportunity Knocks from many years ago dont you think?

The format for this show sounds suspiciously akin to "Britain's Got Talent"
