Substitute for Gerard Joling

The Netherlands New Topper on the way!

This afternoon the management of De Toppers released a remarkable press release referring to the break up with Gerard Joling. The two remaining Toppers, Gordon and Ren Froger, want to look for a substitute to fill up Gerards place. Thus, the singers hope to ensure their forthcoming participation in the Eurovision Song Contest as well.

The management of De Toppers blames Gerard Joling for abandoning the other two members and therefore causing substantial damage. ‘He didn’t take all the interests into account by not following the agreements and stepping out like this’, according to the management. To reduce any further damage, an emergency meeting was planned last weekend.

The press release states: ‘We made several deals about the fifth anniversary of De Toppers in 2009 and we want to live up to that. Therefore we need to come up with a clear point of view on this matter. We can’t disappoint the hundred thousands of fans by cancelling our anniversary concerts in June. That’s why we discussed the option to ask another artist to replace Gerard.’ The substitute of Joling should take over all further planned activities in 2009, like the docusoap, the participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, the anniversary concerts in June and a boatcruise with fans to finish the anniversary events.

Gordon and René Froger have somebody in mind already, but the name hasn’t been revealed yet. One of the reasons to look for a substitute is to ensure their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Broadcaster NOS hasn’t come up yet with an official reaction as they want to know the name of the substitute first, before making a final decision.

Whether De Toppers go to Moscow or not, will become clear in the next few days. The view of the broadcaster involved is still to be confirmed, although they have spoken out to say that they consider De Toppers to consist of the original three men. They may yet consider a replacement does not conform to the agreed terms and decide to look for an alternative representative. esctoday.com will keep you informed as the story is still to be continued.

Having gone to the effort of tracking down some of Anouks songs (ok, so it wasn't that hard to type her name into youtube) i'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I can't see Anouk winning. Her voice is good, but her style I don't feel will suit Eurovision. Of course that would depend on song choice to some extent. Although, I do agree she would probably be a better choice than De Toppers (in any form). I will give whoever they send a fair hearing. I wont write off any artist before they have sung on the Eurovision stage.

maiby they can choose Paul de Leeuw also a dramaqueen like Joling but i like him alot.
With paul de Leeuw and Sakis together in moscow waaauw (remember the point during the final in arthens given by Paul ) it was hilarous and he was flirting with Sakis. Paul to Sakis:"Kali sperma and do you want my mobile number" and Sakis said to him with a joke : "i ll bed its with 69 69 69 "
So instead Gerard Joling PAUL DE LEEUW YEah

I don't like De Toppers, they are too schlageristic for my ears. And they sound boring, old-fashioned. Netherlands needs something more modern, more unpredictable.

C'mon, pick Anouk up!

I doubt if NOS/TROS agree with this.
But there is so much news at the moment every day about De Toppers in the Dutch media. Nobody seems to know what is truth and what is rumour. In the end only NOS in cooperation with TROS will decide. If for example Jeroen van de Boom will be the substitute, I think there is a chance they will agree.

Maybe Willeke Alberti could replace Joling ...?

I think they've lost their right to go without any competition. It's time to bring in some other acts and have a true national final.

God...I was hoping one good thing that would come of this would be that they would replace the act...sorry...not even heard the song but not a chance in hell of qualifying...the genre not likeable!

too much turmoil for nothing...they have the budget, the have the experience, they have a music industry with very professional artists, why do the dutch insist to send artists with no potential?? and plus, they have these huge silly troubles. why don't they drop this group and try to find someone suitable, contemporary and professional? Please, the Netherlands have no right to complain about the eastern europe voting anymore, because they don't care about eurovision anymore and this is mooooooooooore than obvious
