Two semi finals again

Romania: national final on 31st January

Romanian broadcaster TVR has announced the dates of their selection for the upcoming 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. Two semi finals will be held on 27th and 29th January before the grand final on 31st January.

Composers are invited to submit their songs between 15th November and 15th December. On 22nd and 23rd December, a jury will select the songs to participate in the semi finals. A new rule states that only composers from Romania are allowed to take part in the competition. In recent years, many composers and singers from outside the country, especially from Sweden, took part in the Romanian selections. Theses acts include Rednex, LaGaylia Frazier and the group Biondo that finished 2nd in 2008 only a few points behind Nico & Vlad Mirita. Twelve songs will compete in each of the semi finals and six from each will proceed to the final.

Romania had a rough start in the Eurovision Song Contest but went on to become very succesful: the country took part in the competition for the first time in 1994 but it was in 2002 when they reached the top ten for the first time. After four top ten finishes in five years Romania finished 13th in 2007 and 20th in 2008, when Nico & Vlad Mirita performed Pe-o margine de lume in the final.

You know of course that Andreas also took part in 2003 and 2005 with Alcazar and in ESC 2006 for Switzerland (Six4One).
Great video with Magnus :D He participated in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 !!! with Barbados, Alcazar and on his own.
! Ani Lorak will perform together with Charlotte Perrelli, Linda Bengtzing, Martin Stenmarck, Nordman, Ola, EMD ... in a Christmas show in Stockholm in December :D

btw I forgot to add . . . . the MF 1996 stage looks sort of similar to the ESC stage 96, they have a similar theme anyhow :D

I didn't realise Andreas had been around so long :) I stil think I prefer "move" to his older songs though ;) And btw if you remember I said "live forever" was my least favourite song from 2007, well i've learned to like it and after I saw the really cool official video, I think the song is great! :D http://uk.youtube.co(...)/watch?v=IuudhPZ7bYk :)

I like most of the Romanian entries(even songs which havent won their national final....THAT says something...).
I believe that last year the draw killed their entry...!!!
Goodluckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk :D

Thanks for posting the video with Molly and Ola. I haven't seen it before :) And the photo of Molly is very good.
Yes please, I would like Katrina's entry.

Jonny
Andreas Lundstedt also took part in 1996 :)

As for Romania I think "Tornerò" was their best entry :)

Although I like Romania very much as a country, the only Romanian entry I liked was 2002, Tell me why...I was hoping they would be in the top 5 that year.
This year I liked their entry although I found it a bit old-fashioned..but still I expected it to be much higher.
Anyway, good luck Romania :)

I can remember watching Thérèse's "Drömhus" entry in 1999 - I thought it was very good, but her singing is...well...a bit bad :P And if either of you would like Katrina's 2005 entry all you need to do is ask as I have the mp3! :D

Have you seen the photo of Molly Sandén on the Swedish wikipedia page? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bc/Molly_Sand%C3%A9n.jpg - I've completely forgetten all about Paolo :P marry me Molly!!! (L) She's absolutely gorgeous and as I've said before her voice is unbelievable! The first song I ever heard of her's was "Du Är Musiken I Mig" with Ola. I may be a bit biased, but it's the best version of the song (which seems to be in every single language in the world :P) you must see if you haven't already: http://www.youtube.c(...)ed&v=2fkJ0lpO2HU

So, as a bit of change I will be supporting Amy, Agnes and Molly in MF 2009!

Therese looks very different back in 1999 :D Although I like her song, but if she had gone to Jerusalem, I doubt she would have won. In fact her song in 1999 is sort of similar to "all out of luck" :)

Yeah, shame on us :( It qualified to 2nd chance though :) One of my favourites in 2005.

MF 1999 looks very old-fashioned. Runner-up was Therese (who also participated in 2007 together with The Attic) :

of course Romania turned to be quite successfull - they started to trade votes! (eg. 2002 contest)

I think Deseprado had the best song in 2007. It was like good feel Americana :) I didn't like the winner...novelty crap. In 03 I liked Romania most. They are good at modern songs.

Thank god for that! :D Yes I think a tortoise is a land dwelling turtle, and they go to sleep for half the year, so that can be the esc-off season :D

Stockholm
Thanks sooooo much for finding it :D I can't believe this didn't even make the final, its an amazing song! :D Shame on Sweden for not voting for it lol ;)

I hope for Mihai as the winner !! I think he can draw a lot of votes internationally. He did in 2006.
He is the best Romania can send allthough several good songs in the 2008 national final.

I'm glad they've revised the rules, it was getting overrun with Swedish acts. Although, that said, Rednex and Ro-Mania were brill in both 2007 and 2008, and LaGaylia was fun too.

Nico and Vlad deserved to do a lot better than they did this year - it was a great song, both their vocals were excellent, and she'd been trying to get to Eurovision for years, bless her!

Thanks for the explanation :D
You're right, Agnes will probably sing "Love love love". She sang the demo version. I guess you know that Agnes should have participated in 2007 but she was disqualified. Måns competed instead with "Cara mia".

Max - i think the romanian song of 2008 had anything to please Europe. Switch the final running order between Norway and Romania and I'm sure Romania ends up 5th and Romania 20th. It just had to be a ballad 5th after the 4 more pop entries.. Norway had the luck of going last..

Anyway it was a lame italian piano ballad I really don't like it. The 2007 witty entry was fun, but definitely pointless and a bit too out-of-order on the stage. Anyway Romania should go back to what it knows how to do, the 1994 - 2000 - 2005 -2006 entries were all great in their own ways, so I know for sure Romania can create great songs in all type. Just let's wait now for the 09 songs!

Awesome :D and sheep don't generally tend to eat tortoises like they do with snails, so you are safe now!

I have no idea what this has to do with Romania, but I have already made a comment about that! Looking at the 2 words in Swedish it really makes things a lot clearer: "sköldpaddor" och "landsköldpaddor"! :D

btw, Agnes' new album is also on UK iTunes - I want it sooo much, I have been listening to the previews but I have to wait until November 1st, and even then I may not have enough money for it!!!
