OGAE Song Contest 2008: Guess who won

The 2008 edition of the OGAE Song Contest has just come to an end with the points awarding ceremony. This year's organizers, the Spanish branch of OGAE, have arranged a splendid Eurovision-like part which lasts more than 20 minutes, with all 27 spokesmen (and women) giving the 8, 10 and 12 points.

By Dominique Dufaut

The OGAE Song Contest is an audio event in which all OGAE national clubs can enter with an original song released in the previous 12 months in their countries and sang in one of the country's official languages. Spain had this year the honour of hosting the 23rd OGAE Song Contest thanks to the victory of the Spanish branch of OGAE last year in Greece with the song Qué no daría yo, by Rebeca.

Twenty eight clubs participated this year and OGAE Spain put together a video with the voting as delivered by the local spokespersons. So, to discover the winning song, click here  and, please, do not spread the news to your friends (just the link should be enough). Let them enjoy the ceremony on their own.

@ martin mc mullan
FYR Macedonia is disqualified because the song isn't original one, but remake of one old song.

There were many mistakes in the video with flags and ranks.

Zohar : I don't know. This is an interesting question which might be debated. Is the Eurofan objective enough to be part of a national jury ? But do we really know the answer actually ? Have many national TV invited OGAE clubs or members to any selection, either public or internal ? We could argue. Say yes or no. Still, it would be all about concepts, unbased concepts to me...
You should know that in Belgrade we had a poll. A poll made from and for the Eurofans. For the final Portugal and Ukraine were leading this poll until the very last moment. We were wrong with Portugal, but Ukraine finished 2nd. Are we that mistaken now ?

Yeah Mathieu, and i admit, I have exceptional bad taste in music, (no denying) but so do most Euro-fans. The fact we like ESC is kinda wierd, but hey, it's our thing and we get a kick out of it ! ! ! (so who cares)

But making juries out of Eurofans ? May i remind you that the fans pre-vote placed Charlotte as winner and Paolo second, so far from reality. That's proof enough !

@ Zohar : what do you mean ? As a matter of fact OGAE members are Eurovision fans, just like you.

@Thisimmortal....You might not like the French song, fair enough. It's a matter of taste and I won't try to argue with you for that...But you can't say that this song can't be heard on radio nor in the charts, for it was a hit here...Euroballad ? Come on, you don't clearly know what euroballad means, for it's not the kind of song you would hear in the real contest. Does "Je suis un homme" have something to do with "Je n'ai que mon âme", "Il faut du temps" or any of these France sent ? Absolutly nothing ! More, it's not a ballad...

great contest.....

im surprised though that the spanish jury gave no points to andorra and the uk gave nothing to ireland...
i loved the opening sequence with the flags too...
i thought austria's song was the best
nice to see how petra frey has grown up since her eurovision appearance. she looks good....

I haven't commented on here in ages but I am delighted the Croatian song one this - it's just class. I just wish that Croatia's Dora would find a song as good for the actual Eurovision rather than Romanca.

Congrats to Croatia - I like the song, though I didn't expect it to win. Better than Take That though....I don't like old guys " boy bands ", same goes for the irish entry - horrible.

Congratulations Croatia! Hard luck United Kingdom. Good effort!! :-)

Nice winner. Maybe not extra ordinary but....

But also some CRAP songs finishing high...France, Israel...Boring boring euroballads, nothing original at all! That kind of music onlysome ESC-fans seem to like, I never hear songs like this on the radio or in the charts.

As always, some of the best and most original songs do badly...It shows many people have not a brilliant musical taste. At least when it comes to originalty, it seems like banalities are the key to success in this contest... :( Andorra, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Portugal etc...all deserved SO much more!

I think the results would be VERY different if ALL people, not just eurofans voted. And imagine if rock journalists etc voted? it would be upside down! So, the results in OGAE SC are never a "facit" for what's good.

the songs that suposeded to represent Israel in the years when Israel didnt took part becose memorial days.

1980-the brothers and the sisters-"pizmon hozer" (refrain)
http://www.youtube.c(...)&feature=related
Israel made the pre-selection contest as you see, but decided at the end to cancel and not to take part in 1980 becose of a memorial day that was held in the same day of Eurovision

1984-Ilanit (1973,1977)-"Balalayka"
http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=442KgAUcGig
Israel didnt took part becose of a memorial day. this song was writen specialy for Ilanit to be sang in the Eurovision 1984 in Luxembourg. Israel couldnt made the EBU to change the date and that is why Israel decided not to participate. the song was published only at 1985 and was made longer in 1 minute.

1994-Laladin-"Hallo Yakov" (Hallo Jacob).
http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=CHRVBmJCQ2g
the target of the song was to be sang in Eurovision 1994.
but becose of bad result of Israel in 1993 Israel was disqualified from 1994 and the song was a huge schlager in Israel radio chanels.
unfortently i have found only the remix version on youtube. no one in Israel uploaded the amazing video clip with the original version of the song to youtube yet.

Phh, why not? I like the winner...
Of course, I find it a bit disappointing that Ich + Ich only ended up in 18th place, also Estonia and Lithuania deserved much more in my opinion, both there with great songs and even better singers, but hey, you can't have everything...

I agree with all those who said that juries make it fairer and less predictable... and it's cool to see (Canada gives seven points to Andorra - you can be absolutely SURE that this is unbiased...)...

You see people, this is why we shouldn't have OGAE members (under no circumstances) in the national juries ! Infact we shouldn't have juries, but if you limit them then it's OK.

Agree with the comment about Mr Stockselius. I sent him an email a couple of years ago and didnt even get the courtesy of a reply. I wanted one overall vote for countries not in the final so we could have the full voting announcements again.
