Slovakia: Televoting to select national winner
"We look forward to this project. Eurovision is prestigious music contest. We are happy, that after 11 years we will participate in this contest again. The viewers of STV will have the opportunity to watch live a large show, which is broadcast in almost all European countries." says Ms Habanova. She also mentions that due to the small budget of the Slovakian broadcaster, one of the smallest in Europe in fact, they will be participating in the Eurovision Song Contest but not in the other EBU projects.
The first Slovakian representative after eleven years, since the country participated in 1998 for the last time, will be selected directly by the public through televoting. The exact details of the Slovakian final are yet to be announced. STV will also launch a special Eurovision website where the songs will be presented.
Very special thanks to Miloš Hozda for the report.

Miloš H : yes, i have [ sharkan4@hotmail.com]
In Slovenia for example everybody watch ESC and it's quite popular.
I wish Slovensko (Slovakia) will do good in Eurovision. Vítaný na Veľki ceni Eurovízie!!!
Btw on the end of the article is Very special thanks to......... =P Me!!!!! =D
Sharkan, you are good boy, do you have MSN? ;-)
I agree with Miloš H.
'Not everyone can liked it... that's normal... ' but less than more likes esc
Well I don't now how is there, but in Serbia and Montenegro ESC is very popular by many ppl. ESC is fine in my opinion and don't need to be changed... Not everyone can liked it... that's normal...
@Milos
Are you saying that if a contest is considered "gay" it means that it must be impopular?
Eurovision must change his style and image... Europop of 90's years, gold costumes and stupid show - this is not good for competition in 21th century. Many people in my country say - ESC is stupid show like former Ein Kessel Buntess in east Germany. ESC is now popular mostly in gay comunity, for them is it good contest, but the other people prefer normal contest with all type of music genres, with good show, but not trashy show (like Pirates of the sea etc), with more rock and with the best artists of all countries... UK have so many good artists, and they sent last year really the biggest crap of Eurovision in history - Scooch!!! This is not a music group, this is really S.H.I.T. When Eurovision will change their image from gay contest to musical contest with quality, after will be ESC popular maybe in all countries by all people...
'trashy europop music and with bizzar costumes and they don't watch this contest.' The same is in Poland
Sharkan: This is like here, but the situation is in Czechia worse... Many people think, that Eurovision is show with trashy europop music and with bizzar costumes and they don't watch this contest... But some Czechs like ESC, like me for example... =D
Miloš H : I don't think so
TVP[broadcaster] don't care about esc. Polish fans are active in internet but it doesn't reflect popularity in polish society. And ESC always in Poland has bad opinion so popular artists aren't intrested in taking part in contest.
Sharkan: In your country is ESC very popular, and Poland is in Central Europe ;-)
Ben: Ah, ok ;-)
In all countries of central Europe ESC isn't popular
No, no, no... I meant their budget for ESC, not ALL of their money.
Ben: All their money invest to selecting to their entry??? Are you normal?? Sorry, but STV has 3 programs, they must make many other TV shows etc., they can't invest all money in Eurovision!!! ESC is not so popular there, they will never waste all money from their budget. Eurovision is only secondary business for countries like SVK or CZE.
I think that if Slovakia have a small budget, they should invest all their money in selecting their entry, getting to Moscow and putting on a show. They can do without promotion. With a great comeback performance, ala NOX Hungary 2005, they should be able to get a satisfactory result, which could be to qualify and then finish anywhere out of the bottom five. I hope for something powerful and mid-tempo with ethnic elements. Like a more upbeat Lejla or something...
I don't think u are right. I think Slovakia and Czech Republic CAN win with good song and good performance...
Jesse is right... Slovakia can never win, like my country, or many others...
Oh here's hoping they'll do what Hungary did - after being absent for so many years, they came back with an excellent song in their own language!
Welcome back Slovakia
It would be a big surprise if they win. The only two winners from their neighbouring countries were Udo Jürgens and Ruslana. But Ukraine is a totally different country.
Of course they can do it on a shoestring budget: national final performance becomes preview video, and they fly to Moscow, where they perform for 3 minutes - that's the only bit that matters, so why waste money on anything else?
It's great that Slovakia returns to ESC 2009 !! Welcome back !! I hope for a great song in their own language !! Good Luck and Welcome Back Slovakia !!!
Nice to see Slovakia!
if they have sutch a small budge tthat they hardly can produce a national finale.. how can they then is they win host the eurovision 2010?
Something tells me Slovakia and Czech Republic wont be in the same semi. I'm not sure if Eurovision is something you can do well with a shoestring budget, but I wish them good luck. And like Night Elf said, televoting lets the public choose who they think is best.
