New album and US tour

Finland: Lordi back in the news

Lordi, the first Finnish winners of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, release their new album, Deadache this week. The band will also have a US tour, starting off on Nov 6th on the popular TV talk show, Conan O'Brien. The band will have 11 dates in November across the USA with Lizzy Borden and Stolen Babies. The band leader, Tomi Putaansuu aka Mr Lordi has also spoken about his experiences after the Eurovision victory and the media treatment of the band and their releases

The band will tour the United States after the Conan O'Brien performance as follows:

07/11/08 Fri, House of Blues - Houston, TX
08/11/08/ Sat, House of Blues - Dallas, TX

Tomi Putaansuu, aka Mr. Lordi has at the same time told about his disappointment at the media treatment the band has received since their Eurovision  victory. He tells the rock music monthly Soundi how he expects most of the critics to say they have already flopped with the new album if they can't immediately replicate the sales figures after the Eurovision success. He also tells about the downside of having won the Eurovision Song Contest; the media hype will lift you very high, but after the honeymoon period they will completely shoot you down and the loss of credibility is made obvious to you. Mr. Putaansuu also mentions the Lordi horror movie, Dark Floors as another example: critics doomed it as well as a flop, even if it was sold to 30 countries at the Berlin Film Festival.

The media backlash against the band has however gone on. According to Finnish media reports this week, the band has not yet been able to capitalise financially on their victory. Lordi Enterprises reported a loss of almost 54 000 Euro on the turnover of 711 967 Euro during the first 15 months of the company. The tabloid Ilta-Sanomat also says that the Finnish public have, according to the paper's online poll, very little faith in the band's future: over 90% of online voters have said no to the question, whether the band still have their best days ahead of them.  View the Ilta-Sanomat poll here

The new Lordi album Deadache can be ordered via CDON.eu for €17.95

I went to Lordi's concert in Barcelona last year. They do a fantastic job in the live performances. Their victory was good for the Eurovision healthy, not only nice girls or metrosexual guys.

I think this is one of the better winners of the last years. Even without seeing them on stage, HRH was a very good rock song. I won't deny that the look helped but stays that it still is a very good song. Compared to fe Believe this year. Modlidva was a great song aswell.....

And in Kauppalehti was written that Lordi Enterprises does not make profits which is very strange with the potential of an ESC winner.

Good luck to them but they are still one of the worsts winners to me.
A victory that resulted so many circus acts in ESC even 2 years after make me even more angry. If it was what they wanted, welldone then, they did it good
