France : Natasha St-Pier sings Edith Piaf
This is the 6th edition of this special event, entitled Plus de vie. Famous artists will give a piece of their time and talent to perform songs of Edith Piaf, who passed away 45 years ago. Charles Aznavour, Tina Arena, Roch Voisine, Amel Bent will be on stage, and Natasha St-Pier too.
The 2001 French (but Canadian born) entrant will release her new album next November 17th, under the very simple title... Natasha St-Pier. A single has been sent to radio stations some weeks ago and will be the first one to be commercialized: Embrasse-moi.As for the album, it will once again be produced by Pascal Obispo. It is described as “more urban” than usual.
Special thanks to Jacques.

Yeah I can see the similarities in the two songs, but although they immediately look like plagiarisms, its not as clear as it looks
Because although the singing tune is obviously copied, the piano backing track is quite difficult
Its difficult to decide whether it is a proper plagiarism

Thanks alot for the info
Its a shame she dissapeared
I absolutely love Natasha... (as well as Pascal Obispo's music...)
I've got every album of her... and her "new sound" seems to be a good idea, "Embrasse-Moi" is great...
France in recent years often gets me, either with its ballads (Natasha, Sandrine, Louisa Baileche) or with its modern titles (Ortal was just great - totally underrated, same goes for Sébastien Tellier)...
@ Jonny
Unfortunately Sandrine François completely disappeared a few months after ESC 2002. Another single was released in the end of 2002, which only became a minor hit and her record company fired her. Since then, nothing. I think that her voice is amazing but she seems to completely lack charisma. And her dress in Tallinn was awful !
1970, 1972, and 1978 were good years for lovers of French Eurovision songs. France, Luxembourg, Monaco, Belgium and Switzerland all performed in French. Those were the days!
Mmm, it's funny that even with Italy out of the competition, the Italian language continues to be used frequently. I gotta admit I liked San Marino's act this year.
Jonny
lol. A song in Swedish - thanks for suggesting it
I think you have to understand Swedish to appreciate "I lågornas sken".
"Era stupendo" is a very good song, I listen to it a lot. I know that it's similar to Amy Diamond's "It can only get better" but I don't mind. Have you heard it? If not, listen to it and tell me what you think.
Stockholm
To be honest, i'm not sure what I intended to say! Except I wanted to express my love for the french!
I also hope for a bit more Italian, especially in songs like "era stupendo" which is one of the best esc songs ever imo
And I think some Swedish would go down nicely aswell
I think you should send a song in Swedish at some point, either a ballad or just a thumping pop song
(Bengtzing style!
)
But thinking about it, sending Swedish in a song like "i lagornas sken" wouldnt' be a good idea becuase i'm not sure how well people would understand it
I myself was a bit confused when I saw a girl on stage surrounded by lots of fire and fierce looking singers lol!
Jonny, as for my previous post it depends on what you intended to say
I hope for more French, Dutch and Italian in the contest.
haha thats OK chris
I'm always getting my "le's", "la's" and "les" mixed up lol!
I hope for more French in the contest aswell
Yes - le français or le/les Français, la Française, les Françaises
I think.
Er, I think it's still wrong, lol. Should be le français, at least I think so. Sorry...
I only just started to watch Eurovision this year and now I'm hooked! Only problem is, the one language I really like (other than my first language, English) is French. I was very disappointed to hear virtually no French in this year's competition. I can't wait for next year's competition. Maybe Belgium will sing in French - it is the French-language broadcaster's turn to organise the entry after all - or maybe even Switzerland.
oops I just realised the first sentence of my French post was wrong
It should read: "Je T'adore Natasha!, J'adore la France!, J'adore la francais!
By the way, apparently Jonatan Cerrada sang the last chorus or verse of his song in Spanish in 2004?? I don't think this is true but can anybody here help me with this!
When I listen to his song over and over again I can't hear any spanish but its always difficult to listen to languages when they're being sung - http://en.wikipedia.(...)ckground_and_writing
And btw, the English version is good aswell, (of 2004 I mean) and the english versions of 2001 and 2002 are really good aswell
This Inmortal Soul RockIsTheNewSchlager!
I agree that the French entry in 2007 was really good, my second favourite French entry ever, but whilst I recognise this year was a good song, I didn't like it. And as for 2005, yes it was nice, but not a top 10 by any stretch
But I think in terms of the French ballads 01-04, yes they may have been old-fashioned and maybe they were cliche's, but they were still great songs (especially 02 & 01)
Je T'adore Natasha, Je T'adore la France! Je T'adore la francais!
Natasha était fantastique en deux-mil-un
Je t'aime Natasha!!
The French 2001 entry was one of the most beautiful ballads I've ever heard and Natasha looked ravishing
2002 and 2004 were great too imo.
No....Everyones entititled to his / her opinion, but in my view, French entries 01-04 represent some real lowlights in recent ESC-terms. It started badly, unoriginal and boring - and went worse. Pompous, dull, ordinary, old-fashioned, cliched balladstyle. Just the sort of songs which give ballads in ESC a bad name! Fortunately, France have bettered a lot. This year, France was my favourite (first time for MANY many years) with an electronica song. Great brit pop song in 07, and a lovely rnb song in 05. Much more original and credible.
Does anybody know what happened to Sandrine Francois? She had a very good song, although was she forgotten, or does she have a good career?
2001 - 2004 was a period of great entries for France
I reckon the best way to a good result for them is just a massive French power ballad, always works!
And pleasssee France, sing in French in 2009!
A French entry just isn't a true French entry if they sing in english
How rude of me to misspell the name. Dominique. I know better. I'm sorry. Sometimes I wish we had an edit function here.
I love Dimonique's articles. They are always so fun to read and full of great ideas for new music purchases! Keep up the good work!
A great song, once again by the way!
My favourite ever French entrant
Her new song sounds quite good aswell
I was wondering what new was happening with Natasha yesterday, so I warmly thank Dominique for giving me the answer! I might have sent you a mental signal
