The artists have told the YLE website more of their visions for Eurovision.
Kwan are promising a good show with plenty of glitter. Lead singer Mariko won the Finnish version of Strictly come dancing in the previous season and is so a familiar face to the voting public. The band is multinational and sees that as their strength. Kwan recently performed in Moscow and talk about the scarily busy traffic in the city, and how they did not really have time to see much of the vast city in a couple of days.
Tiara works as a singing teacher in her everyday life. She says she was surprised to get the invite as she considers her style different to typical Eurovision music. She hails from Rovaniemi and reveals that she is also a distant relative of Mr. Lordi!
Tapani Kansa admits having said “never again” after his last Euroviisut participation in the 80s, but was happy to accept now as the competition has evolved and is more open than before. He hopes to
to be part of a great show with a great song, which is yet to be chosen.
Riikka says she feels already experienced in the Eurovision Song Contest as she sang backing vocals for Finland in Oslo and in Istanbul, but also was part of the interval act in Helsinki, where she was suspended from the ceiling on wires. Her song comes from the same writer as her 2004 candidate Toarie and she describes it as an melancholic, but beautiful ballad with an ethno flavour.
Sani will work closely with former band mate and experienced songwriter Maki Kolehmainen. She says she has three songs to chose for this fourth Eurovision attempt of hers. She says it will most probably be a catchy dance number, but will not have circus acts on stage with her.
Passionworks reveals that the vocals will be shared by the bands female lead singer and Toni Turunen, who is the little brother of Tarja, who was formerly the lead singer of the successful band Nightwish. The band will probably have the hardest number in this year's Finnish selection and the band trust they also have the best song.
Remu says he was dared to take this challenge by the record mogul Ile Vainio, who has been behind many Finnish successes like Nylon Beat. Remu will release an album of songs that they declare as “rock tango” and his Eurovision entry will be picked amongst the tracks from that album.
Waldo's People say they feel Finland should now try a dance act as their Eurovision entry as most other genres have already been given a chance to represent Finland. The band says they are having a hard time deciding between two equally strong songs to compete with. In any case it will be an international and energetic hit number.
Signmark have already had a good amount of publicity all over the world. The band has three members, one of them 30 year old Marko, who has also been deaf himself since birth. The band will use American Sign Language and English in their Eurovision song and are hoping to reach to a wide European audience who use sign language in their daily lives. Marko, who has followed the Eurovision Song Contest all his life, hopes they can once again bring something completely different to the contest.
Janita has lived the past 12 years abroad and sees that as helpful for the contest. She was surprised to get invited to take part, but is glad how the Eurovision Song Contest has changed totally in the past few years and how Lordi's victory has been important part of it. Janita has been an artist since she was only 14 years old and describes her song as alternative soul.
Vink describe their style as fast and rocky with an angle. The youthful band consisting of five scholl friends and say they are definitely in it to win. The band have roots in Finland's Swedish speaking minority, but are singing in English.
Jari Sillanpää ponders whether it will be third time lucky in fulfilling his childhood dream of winning the Eurovision Song Contest. He expects the show to something spectacularly unforeseen in Moscow. He has very fond memories of his time in Istanbul in 2004 and says the team were very well looked after by the hosts. He loved the whole experience and is hoping to go to Moscow this time with a power ballad, which would allow him to show off his vocal range.
Just over 10 000 readers of the tabloid Ilta-Sanomat have voted for their favourite artists online and Kwan are in a clear lead with 38% of the votes. In second place is veteran rocker Remu with 18% of the votes with Jari Sillanpää third with 12%.
YLE will announce the song titles and their authors on the 5th of December, when the broadcaster's Eurovision website will also be relaunched with the new look for 2009.

Jaana is going to be the hostess again of ESC Finnish national final! She´s sooo great!
Waiting for a great show!
Good luck to all artists! And well, it´s not going to be hard rock in 2009 for Finland!
You could do better than this Finland, I want more metal and hard rock!!!
kwan would be a good choice indeed..and at last not another hard rock entry from Finland. Good luck to Finland next year!
Signmark sounds interesting...
Mina
LOL
Admit it it sounds so much better on Icelandic language and ESPECIALLY if u just listen to it and not watch it. try it !!!
Night,
I can't believe I fell for that...LOOOOOOOOOOOOL
let me gues: another hard rock entry from finland next year?? I am just keep on wondering: is it going to be with masks or without? with semi naked singers or with singers dressed in black leather?..hmm..lol
I'll keep my fingers crossed for Tapani Kansa..
He participated so many times and "paista päivä" from 1982 was such a lovely song. Instead of that Finland had to gave us Nuku pommin by Kojo, which was really horrible...
So Finland... skip the "hard-rock" entries. Although you've had your victory with a hardrock song, it will never be a eurovisionfan favourite...
Favourite Finnish artists/entries ?
Monica Aspelund, Riki Sorsa, Ami Aspelund, Jari (from 1986)
And now.. my hopes are set on Tapani
Last night was held a Gala Night "Operation Triumph".
Laka, Severina and Zeljko Joksimovic sang live last night:
Laka - Pokusaj (amazing performance)

Zeljko Joksimovic - Lane Moje

LOL
And "Dangerzone" is really really good
Cant wait.
Waldo's People sounds promising.
I agree Stockholm
Passionworks as my first choice with hopefully a really fast catchy rock song, like Dangerzone by Vanilla Ninja - http://uk.youtube.co(...)/watch?v=o74S0rEX27o
And Kwan as my second choice
I pin my hopes on Passionworks but Kwan seems great too
I have a feeling that Finland will send a good song this year
For the time being I support the Kwan, maybe because they're famous here, in Greece and I know them very well.
Anyway, on topic
, here's Kwan performing in Greece (?) this year -

Is it really so difficult for people to keep on topic..?
Not to mention it's a useless debate which esc was the "best", as everyone will have their personal opinion about the matter...
(That said, Helsinki definitely had the best final opening act & interval act of all times
)
I firmly believe that ATHENS 2006 ESC was by far....the most spectacular & innovative organisation EVER!!!!!

Best stage,hosts,opening ceremonies,interval acts & mini-videoclips!!!
Impeccable work.....
Jonny
I think your ranking is OK
Even though "Cool vibes" isn't Vanilla Ninja's best song I still think it's better than the 2008 entries.
You're right Stockholm in that "in my dreams" is certainly one of the best eurovision songs of this decade
As for "Cool vibes", I love it, but after listening to their albums "blue tatoo" and "love is war" its clear Vanilla Ninja can do waayyy better
Although overall this year was the highest quality of songs for me, followed by Helsinki, then Kiev, then Athens, then Istanbul, the Stockholm. then Riga, then Tallinn, and Copenhagen comes in last lol!
Good luck to Finland! The line-up looks great. I can't wait
I agree with Night Elf that there were many good songs in 2005. At least my favourites "Cool vibes" and "In my dreams" were much better than any of the songs competing in Belgrade imo
Best opening act: Helsinki/Kiev in Final , Kiev in Semifinal
Best interval act: Final : Helsinki 2007/Kiev 2005 Semifinal: Belgrade 2008 (1st semi)
Best stage: Helsinki/Kiev/Riga
Best songs: Helsinki/Kiev/Belgrade
Best theme and logo: Helsinki/Kiev/Belgrade
Best scoring board: Belgrade
Best hosts: Helsinki
Night elf
Aaah I liked the Istanbul stage aswell, although I wouldn't call it my favourite
Heres how it goes for me:
Best Opening: (Final: Helsinki) (Semi: Athens)
Best Stage: Helskini (with Belgrade as close runner up
)
Best Songs: Belgrade
Best Theme: Belgrade (although Athens was amazing aswell)
Best Scoreboard: Istanbul
Best Hosts: Athens (although for comedy factor, Istanbul
) lol
Still the best ESC for me is 2005 couse there where SO many good and different songs, so that's my favorite year
This is so out the topic

Best wishes to Finland for NF, can't wait !!!
Jonny
I agree that Athens stage look a bit "cold". There was something missing definitely there.
For me this is how it goes for now:
Best opening act: ATHENS 2006
Best stage: ISTANBUL 2004
Best songs: in KIEV 2005
Best theme and logo: BELGRADE 2008
Best scoring board: BELGRADE 2008
Best hosts: HELSINKI 2007
As for the Helsinki-Athens debate . . .
Athens will always be special for me, its the first contest where I got really interested in and the first contest where I bought the official CD!
Although admittedly I did prefer the Helsinki stage design, and overall presentation of the show. Although I did love the Athens theme and Sakis and Maria were great
Also Helsiki in my opinion had much better opening and interval acts (maybe thats cos I love rock) although I think the Athens semi opening was the best semi opening ever and could have even been a final opening
Although don't get me wrong, although I do prefer the Helsinki stage, I think the Athens one is INCREDIBLE! It didn't look as good as the Helsinki one but technically and in terms of size it was amazing!
The only problem with the Athens stage imo was that it felt a bit cold
And Belgrade was amazing aswell!
Amazing stage, best theme ever, interval and opening acts were a bit dodgy though
Hvala Serbia!
i definetely liked the Athens stage much more than the Helsinki one. I honestly think the atheneaum stage was the most contemporary one up to today with a superb and unique volume of lightening. anyway, i hope Finland won´t repeat once more herself and presents us a "hard rock" entry with or without masks with or without clothes :-)
