China and India taking part

Asiavision Song Contest to be held by mid-2009!

It was announced some one year ago that the Eurovision Song Contest would see a spin-off being held in our neighbour continent. Finally, the news have been confirmed and the first ever Asiavision Song Contest has been announced to be held in mid-2009. Fifteen countries are expected to take part, including the two regional giants China and India.

The Asian version of the Eurovision Song Contest has come true thanks to a company called Asiavision Pte. Ltd., which have purchased the Eurovision format to produce it for our neighbour continent.

Asiavision has been planned to be a six-month musical event consisting of national and regional tournaments and a grand final. The contest will be delivered to a total of 16 countries/regions: China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. These areas comprise over 3 billion people (half of Earth's population) and a potential audience of over 500 million viewers.

Bettina Brinkmann, Head of Formats and Special Events at Eurovision TV proudly remarks the international expansion of the Eurovision format: "Having brought the European version of the Eurovision Song Contest to the Middle East and North Africa, we are now delighted that viewers across Asia will enjoy one of the best established entertainment shows in the world", and concludes stating that "The format has proven it can travel worldwide. We are looking forward to other versions of it developing internationally".

The purchasing company also have commented on their decision of inaugurating a new era in the history of Asian television. Andreas Gerlach, CEO of Asiavision Pte. Ltd. has emphasised the competitiveness of the Asian nations: "Asia today is all about competition, economically and politically. The Song Contest is a friendly competition between cultures. Like in Europe, the universal language of music will help to bring people closer together and nurture mutual understanding in the region".

Several national broadcasters have already shown their interest to host the first annual Asiavision Song Contest. Stay with us for further developments!

Israel should definitely join Asiavision. Turkey and Azerbaijan should decide what they prefer since they are on the border of both continents although they are both typical Asian nations.

Forget my suggestion of Shilpa Shetty-
For China, I nominate actor, action choreographer, film director, producer, martial artist, comedian, screenwriter, entrepreneur and stunt performer -

JACKIE CHAN! He is also a singer, having released 20 albums since 1984

filipe are you so desperate about endless failure of your country ;) ??

For your infmormation, the countries which you listed are former soviet states, not former russian. and they are situated in Europe. it is so sad that you are ignorant at your age.

the countries in Asia on Eurovision are Israel and Cyprus. so they can join Asiavision easily.

I think potentially the most interesting would be 'Africavision'.

I wonder who will send Jay Chou - PR of China or Taiwan. I wouldn't be surprised if South Korea sent Rain and Ayumi Hamasaki represented Japan. As Hong Kong, probably Andy Lau or Aeron Kwok.

I wonder if Taiwan haveto be called "Chinese T'aipei" for the contest ekk :S anyways Taiwan singers are usually really popular in the East Asian region, so without them in the contest would be like not having the UK in Eurovision.

China and Taiwan in one contest. Interesting, seeing as they refuse to acknowledge the other exists! Perhaps the new Macedonia/Greece issue ;)?

But seriously. Awesome idea! :D :D

It's interesting that Macao is allowed an entry, seeing as it isn't a self-governing country with full sovereignty - which seems to be a rule of the Eurovision version. So is there some hope for the likes of the Faroes, Catalunya, Scotland, Wales etc in Eurovision?

YAYA!! FINALLY! I live in Australia, but my parents are Indonesian... soooooooo I'm happy there's an Asiavision to fulfill my international song competition lusT! By looking at the logo map of Asia from the Asiavision site... it looks like that Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan are the most western cut offs, so sorry the caucasus and all the middle eastern countries are not able to qualify in Asiavision... maybe. commercial channels are doing it, so hopefully it wont get the "kitsch" and "lame" reputation Eurovision has.... you go to admit... it has that reputation!!! If we got the ABC (state owned) to select a song to represent Australia, we would come out with an Orchestra piece, a childrens song or something experimental. LOL

I also hope that we will be able to watch the ASC over here. And I want all "non-European" countries which are now taking part in ESC to stay there.

Great idea! Hopefully it will be broadcast into Europe as well... It will be interesting to see which kind of music that will feature, which languages they will speak in etc.
But I don't like the idea of a worldwide contest, as that would degrade ESC to a mere regional selection phase.

Imo Turkey, Israel, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia should all stay in ESC because its the one that they participated in first. But countries like Kazakhstan who have been knocking on the esc door for a few years now, should go to ASC instead. :)

Huseyin onur! You right! Israel and Turkey are old countries in Esc, Israel won 3 times and participate for 35 hours, much more early than many countries here. so respect here!

ive seen some very interesting comments about this especially from Greece! they seem to want to get rid of Turkey very easily but this is why esc is losing its spirit, because of these political racist views! but i am happy for Asia really am buti just hope these thinkgs happen for asc!

Turkey and Israel have been in this contest for such a long time and they both had very successful years especially Turkey since their win in 2003 their songs have improved rapidly! i am hapy for them and there is no way for Israel or Turkey to join Asiavision! it seems a bit pointless anyway.
I know that Turkey will not make such a decission anyway because all these years the turkish ave been with us and i dont think they would even consider leaving esc to asc! lol
i hope not anyway because esc will lose one of the countries that sends great songs :)

Finally good news... Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further other former russian countries please PACK YOUR BAGS AND GO TO THE ASIAVISION SONG CONTEST ... You may be welcome there. Such a pity that all former yugoslavian countries don't belong to the Asia, otherwise this message would be send to them as well. Sorry, but I am fed up of YU-RU-Vision diaspora. Portugal wouldn't give anymore 12 points to Ukraine (even when they deserved ie 2004, 2006 and 2008)

I dunno... I mean it makes the ESC seem less original.. :(

But it could be fun.. I'll definitely download the music and wow.. its like 15 more entrants at the ESC.. And basically thats all i like.. And when the chinese get to organize the ASC theyre gonna make it so awesome, the ESC will be lame :( :( :(

I LOVE ESC... Its the best and thets how it should stay...

Plus, what about the Asian countries that participate in ESC.. OK im really beginning to dread the asiavision... :(

Good - well I hope they learn from the disaster that is the current voting system for the Eurovision

Well, I'm not very keen about hering news about this competition (keep that in mind esctoday.com). Allright, as long as there isn't a "Worldvison"(I think that's some kind of charity organization) Song Contest I happy.
So good luck Asia! And I hope they doesn't have to experience the same problems we got in the ESC.

I don't see any reason why countries eligible for Eurovison and Asiavision contests can't enter both if they choose to do so (with different songs of course). We already know the eligibility requirements for Eurovision, lets wait and see the eligibilty requirements for Asiavision.

Although Australia has a lot of migrants from Asia, i'm not sure there would be enough interest for us to push for entry into it. Australia would fit in better with Eurovision :-P Although, a revival of "Oceaniavision" could be interesting, but highly unlikely, as I can't see Tuvalu or Nauru being able to spend as much as New Zealand...but it's a nice thought.

I love the 3 billion people part!! its only 3000 million!

btw i love the idea of making an asian and european final together!! just taking the ESC and the ASC like particular semifinals fot a bigger price :P
