Turkey: TRT calls for ideas for the next Eurovision entrant
In 1997, Sebnem Paker came 3rd in the Eurovision Song Contest thus creating some interest, even if it was short lived at the time, for the contest locally. Until then, the Turkish public's interest in the contest was practically non existent. Turkish pop music developed quickly in the 90’s. Hundreds of hit songs were produced but no famous singer nor composer showed any interest to join Eurovision Song Contest national finals in Turkey.
The Music department of TRT , always responsible for Eurovision Song Contest, decided to solve this problem. They stopped the national finals and started to invite popular singers to represent Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest after 2003 (with the exception of 2005). The effort was crowned with success, landing Turkey with their first victory with Sertab and continued with good results in the years to follow.
For next year, TRT was considering organising a kind of national final like Operación Triunfo or Pop Idol. Another thought was to make a list with successful singers to contact and invite them to represent Turkey in 2009. For the second time in the country's Eurovision history after 1975, TRT now asks people for their suggestions and ideas about the singer of 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Fans suggestions can be submitted here.
Nothing has been decided or confirmed yet but speculations have started flying already. Sebnem Ferah was the last name to be mentioned in Turkish media as a possible candidate. It is a known fact that TRT has been contacting popular singers but we will have to wait for the official announcement.

I repeat again if Turkey wants a really good position in ESC again, you guys should choose Hadise.
BURCU GÜNES has a great voice!!! maybe, she could do it!
yeah yeah we have several names but the most important thing is trt wants the song to be written n composed by the artist n the artist will probably have only a month to go
thankfully they left the language decision to the artist last year n hope they do the same for 2009.
so its hard.we need a talented singer who can write n compose under a pressure of a time limit.n she/he has to sing live good.
so i cant make a guess,i have questions almost for every candidate but hey Teoman would be nice.
i just think its time smt far from rock, lets wait n see.its great finally!trts askin our opinions guess the end is near lol
now we do have a right to speak.suggest.etc for the entry which will represent us
fingers crossed!
Hadise can be a great choice but we have lots of options...
I hope to see AJDA PEKKAN again!!! she's too old (62) but after some bottox she'd get her style like 26 :-)
my favorites are:
HADISE or
BURCU GÜNES or
AJDA PEKKAN
next year we need a different show!!! I would (really) to see AJDA PEKKAN on stage... she could dance with hot boys and HADISE could sing! (like a fight between two hot women)
...two popular singer on stage!!!
Ozlem Tekin
Murat Boz
Sebnem Ferah
Candan Ercetin
Demet Akalın
Ajda Pekkan again
Hayko Cepkin
and i dont love all them but i think they can bring good results but i love Ozlem, hayko and sebnem
The greates voices from turkey i would recommend are:
Isin Karaca
Candan Ercettin
Ibrahim Tatlises
These three can defenitely hit top 2 as they hit right and high notes
I'm for Hande Yener with a ballad in Turkish or for Sebnem Ferah with something like Can Kiriklari or Vazgectim Dunyadan.
But if Turkey sends Hadise, that would be great too.
Why not send Ani Lorak, after all she is yenge of Turkey now.
I aggree that Murat Boz might be a good idea. His songs might match general European taste than the other singers suggested in this forum.
Tarkan would also be good but he's too famous to risk his name with a non-favourable position at the end of the contest, especially with recent discussions about going back to jury voting system. I believe that juries are more likely to vote for countries, not for songs.
I also aggree that Sebnem Ferah is a great singer but she's a rock singer and rock songs from Turkey for 2 consecutive years would be too much :-)
Turkey should now send Arabesk or something electronica/dance. Something like "Condom" by TuÄŸba Ekinci would be hot hot hot.
Yeah you got to be funny sometime, sense of humour is essential
Cyprus is gonna win ESC next year? Boy you are funny
Burcu Gunes with a beautiful ballad for Turkey ?
Perhaps turkey migth call for Zeki Muren spirit to esc stage and only his voice and singing can do, lol.
Imagine if they send bulent Ersoy, tanrim tanrim sen al canimi AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Her big voice would not fit into 3 minutes and turkey would be struggling to make it fit into three minutes stage performance, so please turkey whatever you sent not bulent ersoy, she is 100 times bigger for Eurovision. lol.
Serol Karalar
Well it only ended up 11th as you said, so it is perfectly normal not to remmember it, besides, turkey hardly sends ballads but mostly uptempos
Hadise would probably achieve higher position like Kalomoira with flashy, sex symbol performance perfectly matched with modern uptempo song, but I can't imagine her winning ESC. She is far from being a real big star like Sertab. Hadise will stir things up but can manage to reach same level as Sebnem Paker (97), Athena (2004) or Kenan dogulu (2007), since she is not any better than Mor ve Otesi who only finished 7th, she can well end up with down low like that irritating fake superstar for turkey in 2006.
@ Cyprus is gonna win ESC next year?
Turkey sent the last ballad in 2001.Sedat Yuce was the singer and his song was Sevgiliye Son.The song got the 11th place
hadise can stir us up if she is gonna be the singer for turkey ...and she is not belgian..just she was living in belgium....pls belgium use your own singer for singing in just semifinal
Noooo Hadise is a BAD CHOICE!!
She cannot sing live!!!

Yep, turkey always sent high tempos or some rock but hardly a ballad, the last time turks sent ballad was in 1998. Strange, turks love ballads and turkish music can work very well through ballads as they have many, but they try to follow european viewers to trick them up with tunes that can match european's ears rather than sending their original songs, I am absolutaley certain their original folklore can do a lot better than the fake superstar they sent in 2006, or even better to send ballad song either their traditional, regional style or west sound which they call it turk hafif music or turk sanat music. I've listen to their original songs they were great but still don't understand why trt don't ever take these examples into consideration, the perfect opportunity they avoide. Shame.
I want to see Turkey try a ballad. Would be a bit different coming from them.
Either that or a song about a slab of hellim (halloumi) cheese.
I hope it will be HADISE....
Euro Sheep
I read that too. Well, in that case I hope Hadise will represent Belgium
Jonny, "A good kiss" is great.
Hadise is a great idea to represent Turkey in Moskow. I am getting big fan of her. Most posibly I would vote for her if she joined Eurovision 2009.
I hope for Tarkan too.
Teoman is the best! Great rock singer! Please Turkey send him! =D
