Three semifinals and a national final proposed
Andorra will participate at Eurovision 2009
Earlier this month, Andorran public broadcaster RTVA held a press conference to present their new season programme schedule and RTVA officials announced that Andorra will participate at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Moscow, Russia.
This time, it will be the broadcaster itself who will be in charge of the Eurovision 2009 project. A new formula was tested for the 2008 contest, when a deal with a private musical company was sealed, which created high expectation but did not manage to bring a good result to Andorra.
For the entry selection, a selection procedure has been proposed. The Andorran singer and song would be selected from a national final consisting of three semifinals and a grand final. A mixture of jury vote and televote would be used.
More details from Andorran broadcaster are expected to follow. Stay tuned to esctoday.com.

In spite of ineptitudes which were revealed about microstates such as Andorra, Monaco or Luxembourg (countries that honoured the contest while uniting with the other countries of Europe), they will participate again one day (and more quickly than you think it), even if some fans of the Eastern countries do not like that... do you understand what I mean? Please friends no racism nor apartheid!
Sorry, 2000 and 2001 were the only Russian entries I liked
Aaah yes I like Solo aswell, as for the russian songs I like . .
2000, 2005, 2007, 2008
I also liked Solo very much as well as 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008. Lady Alpine Blue (sorry Stockholm
) sounded very strange to me.
Stockholm
Aaah yes I like Solo aswell, as for the russian songs I like . .
2000, 2005, 2007, 2008
And who's talking about Andorra here?
Max Raspail
There are many songs in your profile which are in my top 3 too
Jonny
I just remember one more Russian song that I like, "Solo" from 2000
Max - lol, I love Sonias performance, it was sooo great . . I don't know what it was . . but I loved it!
Glad we agree on the Netherlands
Stockholm - Aaah yes the irish lyrics are good, the song is just a big boring for me

Mina - Well I will remind you in 20 years then lol
@ Jonny
Yes, I know that I've got a special own taste...
I really disliked Sonia - everybody said "ooh, she brought such an energy on stage" - really? did she? I thought that this was a boring disco-blah blah-song and she was singing it quite ordinarily in my opinion...
But we finally agree on the Netherlands - Ruth Jacott makes my second place, too....
Jonny
lol.
"To nie ja" is the best Polish entry imo. It's my 3rd favourite in 1994 after The UK and Ireland. (I think the lyrics add to the Irish song.)
Jonny,
it's way too soon to call Russia and Ukraine 'the new Uk and Ireland'..for one thing, neither one of them has won twice yet..LOL
Besides, Russia has been in the esc for 12 years..5 of those years they were below the Top 10. Ukraine, in their 6years of participation they were below the Top 10 twice.
Ireland had only been out of the top 10..... 4 times in 32 years (jury years)...as for the Uk...it was outside the top 10...only ONCE IN 40 YEARS! Pretty amazing, isn't it? And that one time they were 11th.
So, we can't compare them to Russia and Ukraine..maybe 20 years later..LOL
***I mean "Poland should have won in 1994" . . not 2004 like I wrote lmao! Poland definitely shouldn't have won in 2004!!
Stockholm - I'm not sure whether the UK should have won 1994, although that reminds me, I was watching the 1994 opening the other day, and Terrys words were "our representative is Frances Ruffelles, and in the very unlikely even she doesn't get 12 points from everybody . . !"
And although the Ukraine and Russia may not the new UK/Ireland in songs, they certainly are in results I think.
Max - Oooh Niamh Kavanagh not in your top 10!!
She's my 3rd favourite from 1993, my joint first favourites are the Netherlands and the UK, although I still think Niamh deserved her victory
And as for their 1994 song, to me its just a bit drab, it doesn't really build to anything and it isn't very impressive. Don't get me wrong I think its a nice song, but not a winner for me
Poland should have won in 2004
@ Stockholm calling
Thumbs up for Lady Alpine Blue
...
Hooray, Andorra!!!
@ Jonny K
I disagree - completely
. In my opinion, the Irish victory of 1994 was totally deserved - finally a good song which made it...
In 1992, Linda Martin gets a 7th place from me, Italy with Mia Martini and Rapsodia should have won in my opinion... and in Millstreet, Niamh Kavanagh was far away from joining my Top10 - my personal winner was the sweet Norwegian girl Silje Vige with her beautiful Alle Mine Tankar...
i believe one day they get final ... they are really doing good song ..speacially last 2 years .. andorra dont leave eurovision ...just think the belarus and bulgaria 2007 the got final
u will do it...kisses from turkey
Jonny
I agree about Ireland 1992 & 1993 and The UK 1996. I like the Irish entry in 1994 too though Frances Ruffelle should have won imo.
To me Russia and Ukraine aren't the new Ireland/UK. The only Russian song I really liked was "Lady Alpine Blue". As for Ukraine I thought "Wild dances" was OK.
Yeah basically mina, Ukraine, Russia are the new UK & Ireland, like it said in that article not that long ago!
And as for the UK & Ireland deserving their high positions, well it depends on the year. There are some years where we didn't deserve our high positions, some where we did. Personally I dont think Ireland should have won in 1994, but they really deserved it in 1992 & 1993
Equally I dont think the UK deserved so many constant high positions some years, but there are years where we should have done better, eg 1996
It not only depends on the songs we sent, but also the quality of the songs around us. And part of the reason why we did so well constantly well is because alot of the songs back then, were of low standard.
I disagree with people who say that The UK and Ireland used to get high points because they sang in English. I think their entries were very good. In 1990-1998 I have Ireland in my top 2 5 times and The UK 6 times
As for Belgium I can't understand why they came last in 1993. "Iemand als jij" was one of my favourites that year.
Jonny,
I didn't imply that Ireland or the Uk didn't deserve to be high...I don't think in that way, I've never thought 'hmmmmm something strange is going on, why is/was that country top 5 all the time' or 'why did that country win? let me think of all the possible scenarios that prove they didn't win fairly (lol)'...ok, except Estonia 2001, I admit I did find that strange
...my point was that if someone wants to find reasons to complain...they will.
And a Belgian could easily say 'hold on a minute....why was Belgium from 1990 to 2000 SIX times under the 15th position? were our songs that bad and Ireland's (Uk's, Sweden's etc) that good?' Belgium in those 10 (most of which jury) years was always under the top 10 and just one time in the top 6.
Just like now with the semi's they say 'are our songs that bad and Russia's (Ukraine's, Greece's, Serbia's etc) that good?'.
Same with Portugal, Netherlands and so on.
Mina
From 1990 to 1998 Ireland won 4 times
And as for now, if Greece, Serbia, Russia, Ukraine & Turkey win another few times, possibly in a row, then we can start getting angry, but for now whats the problem? Imo they won with very good songs and they deserved it.
I think the problem is people automatically (especially westerners, well 99% westerners) turn against a song slightly if its eastern and it gets a good result, and thats predjudiced. Why can't people just accept that eastern countries deserved their victories?? I bet if Belgium had won with 'Believe' people would be over the moon, but because it was Russia people dont like it, I just wish people here would grow up and be happy for the eastern countries that do well!
Mina is right. Although it is worth pointing out that there were fewer countries in the 90's and Ireland & the UK did consistently send good songs, their positions were still a bit high
I still can't understand how Ireland won in 1994 & 1996, its beyond me.
Andorra is just always neutral,in voting in songs, iam always for more and more countries, but small countries started to be boring with their internal selection,no promo tours and similar
I should add that 3 out of those 6 times, Ireland had won. Imagine if that happened with Greece, Turkey or Russia..ohhhhhhhh the horror
And to continue.
From 1990 to 1998
The Uk was in the top 5 4 times.
Sweden was in the top 5 3 times.
Spain was in the top 5 3 times.
So, what's the difference? There were always countries that did better than others. Belgium and Portugal were never in the top 5 during 1990-1998 and the Netherlands was in the top 5 only once in those 8 years.
Let's explain that, why don't we?
Serbia, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and Greece each won once... but besides their win they have been occupying the top-5 as well for the past 7 à 8 years..how do you explain that?
Victories apart..from 2000 to 2008:
Greece was in the top 5 3 times.
Turkey was in the top 5 2 times.
Serbia was in the top 5 once..in 2004.
Ukraine was in the top 5 2 times.
Russia was in the top 5 4 times.
A country being twice or 3 or 4 times in the top 5 in 8 year's time isn't anything new in Eurovision.
For example...from 1990 to 1998 Ireland was in the top 5 6 times..how do YOU explain that?
Indeed, Finland was one of the usual suspects. Also, Serbia, Russia, Turkey, Greece, have won sooooo many times...yes, yes, usual suspects
Finland was a surprise. And ok Serbia, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and Greece each won once... but besides their win they have been occupying the top-5 as well for the past 7 à 8 years... how do you explain that?
with this system of two semis it's possible for every country to reach the final...... but we all know that in the final a usual suspect will win
Indeed, Finland was one of the usual suspects. Also, Serbia, Russia, Turkey, Greece, have won sooooo many times...yes, yes, usual suspects
