France : Jonatan Cerrada in a musical on Aznavour

Jonatan Cerrada, the 2004 French entrant, will soon sing in a musical entitled "Je m'voyais déjà", at the Théâtre du Gymnase in Paris. This musical comedy features the best songs of legendary Charles Aznavour.

The show is based on Charles Aznavour's most famous songs and it will feature other names known to the French public. First role is given to Diane Tell, a French-speaking artist from Canada, living in France. Also on stage is Pablo Villafranca (Maurane's ex-husband - he played in "Les Dix Commandements. The casting was made by Bruno Berberes, French Head of delegation for Eurovision since 2002.

The man behind this musical is Laurent Ruquier, a very famous French comedian and TV talk show presenter. He also commented the Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions : 2003 and 2004. Besides his television appearances, Ruquier wrote around 10 plays (he's the one who adapted "Chicago" in French) and directed many other comedians in their first steps.

"Je m'voyais déjà" (it refers to one of Charles Aznavour's songs) will be premiered next October 2nd, until January 4th. And there will be a live orchestra,   Even with stilts, Belgian-but-with-Spanish-origins Jonata Cerrada only placed 15th in Istanbul with "A Chaque pas"

I liked France in 2004. In fact, it was one of my faves that year (despite I obviously knew it wasn't going to end in a high place. Anyway it was quite funny to see him acting in a TV serie :)

To me it sounded more like an Italian song (but sung in Spanish of course).

Yes, you're right. It sounded like an italian ballad (and I like those).

Yes, Spain was very good. To me it sounded more like an Italian song (but sung in Spanish of course). I also liked Ireland.

Yes, our song was good that year, I think it deserved higher than 13th place.
Brazil is everything I hate in eurovision...the clothes, the hair, the earrings...and not understanding a word of what they sing..it's like hell for me..LOL.but i can see why some ppl may find it cute.

Not bad Mina, Spain was great that year, so was Greece. Don't shoot me now but I also like Yuguslavia, Baby Doll.... so kitsh, over the top but in a good way...

About the 1991 contest I'm not crazy about Amina or the song but I also don't like Carola. If I had to choose the winner, my vote would go to Sergio Dalma and Spain.

"If the skater and the violist were the only good items of the entry, it didn't deserve to win at all."
I liked the whole concept; Dima's performance, the ice skater and the violinist :)
And, just for the record I watch all figure skating championships.

Jonatan Cerrada was very sweet and the song wasn't bad but I couldn't understand what the woman with the wooden legs was doing there...she looked scary :O.. he should have used a ballerina...and the back vocalists with the strange haircuts..weird!
But good luck to him, I really liked him.

Stockholm
Yes I heard that during Carolas performance all the sound was lost inside the arena/halll. Although her performance never faltered and you'd never guess that happened at all :)

And I totally agree with this comment - "I also think that Russia's performance deserved to win even though I'm not a big fan of their song" - I also do not get excited over the song but the whole performance was a winning one :)

Maybe Sweden can sent that discus thrower as a backing.....

I also think that Russia's performance deserved to win even though I'm not a big fan of their song. This has been a great Eurovision year for me who love figure skating: Denise Biellmann in EDC 2007, Evgeni Plushenko in ESC 2008 and now the lovely ice dancer Tatiana Navka will compete for Russia in EDC 2008

Next time watch the Winter Olympics or some Championship about Iceskating ok.
I also liked the skater on stage, doesn't mean the song had to win though. The song was crap, and Dima's performance as well. If the skater and the violist were the only good items of the entry, it didn't deserve to win at all.

Jonny:
I liked Carola's song too. Her performance was excellent considering the problems with the sound. I know that many people have a grudge against Carola for beating Amina but we can hardly blame her for winning. Apparently the juries liked the Swedish entry.

But the fact is there are less countries so we have a smaller say in the winner, is that really unfair? I personally don't think so.

I personally think it IS unfair. Ever heard of Etnic minority? You should ask about it with our Eastern friends in ESC, they know what it feels like.
That's my point and opinion.

Mon 18 Aug 2008 12:57:04

Muireanne,
Yes that is a good point :) But the problem is theres no way of solving that it, so I think we just have to live with it. But the fact is there are less countries so we have a smaller say in the winner, is that really unfair? I personally don't think so.

Mon 18 Aug 2008 12:47:50

Off course the Eastern view is as good as the Western one... where did I ever deny that?
But that's the whole point about ESC isn't it. With 35 Eastern contestants and merely 7 Western that Western view doesn't stand a chance anymore does it. So quite frankly, is the Western view in ESC still as good as the Eastern one???

Jonny K [46883]
Mon 18 Aug 2008 12:34:36

And also yes may western europeans think the song is crap, but many eastern europeans think the song is great :) And the eastern european view is just as good as the western european view. And this is a fansite, so you will get a very different view of the opinion of people than outside of here. People across europe must have loved the song enough to vote for it because it won for gods sake!! :)

Muireanne
I'm not denying that many people think the song is rubbish, because by all means it's hardly world class! :) But the song has grown on me and I did find the performance very good, just my personal opinion. :)

Interesting But lets be honest, none of the recent winners have had any real success have they. The only ones I can think of is Lordi and Elena Paparziou who released international albums straight after, but Dima is doing that aswell
I wasn't a fan of his song but it has grown on me and I watched the final performance again this morning, and it did remind of how impressive it was, to have the world figure skating champion on that tiny piece of ice . . . genius! I think it was a deserved victory, even if I don't love the song

My dear dear Jonny K... You really think that if the UK or Ireland appears on stage with a track-running Olympian champion they would win because of it? Don't think so. Not even if we rented in such a superstar from Russia itself.
The song was crap, it stayed crap during the 2 final-performances and it still is crap. And as you can witness, many Western European agree to that fact.

Stockholm & Marc
I prefer Carola' song! :) Sorry ;) Although I do really like Amina and she would have made a great winner :) Her song reminds me alot of the withdrawn Lebanese entry in 2005, Quand tout S'Enfuit :) If that song hadn't been withdrawn it may have won 2005 and it is by far my favourite of that year :D :L

Muireanne, that's normal my friend when you see where he got his points from.... With all the new countries now, we have two different festival's in one.... The eastern one and the Western one. And because there are more countries in the Eastern one, they win. Simple as bonjour. Result, the winner does nothing at all in the west... Like I said before, I never even heard "Believe" once over here in UK...
