Keith,
You can't type words containing d i e.

What exactly is so foul about k-a-r-p-e-d-i-e-m?
What an odd spam filter you've got here.
Just posting something here to investigate exactly what the spam filter doesn't like:
In Norwegian:
Sichelle (R&B)
Kaizers Orchestra (rock)
DumDum Boys (rock)
Postgirobygget (pop)

Sylvia Night is a real candidate to become classic, but she never was and never will be classy.
Exactly!
Absolutely true Mina. Classic doesn't mean classy. Sylvia Night is a real candidate to become classic, but she never was and never will be classy.
Basically I agree with w s. A song becomes classic after time has passed. You can't say a song written 5 years ago is 'classic'. And then 'classy' is a different thing...something classic isn't necessarily classy and I'm sure there were many classy songs that never became 'classic'. And with all this class I'm getting headache so I hope I made my point....LOL
I thought of Catherine Ferry, Nicole Rieu, Tozzi & Raf, Toto Cutugno, Sandra Kim, Pierre Rapsat, Marie Myriam, Sophie et Magali, Céline Dion, Secret Garden, France Gall, Corinne Hermes, Anne Marie David, Séverine, Abba, Johnny Logan and Joëlle Ursull...
That means 17 out of 19... Yes, I would call this a majority...
They are classics, no doubt about it...
For my personal taste, I would exclude Sophie et Magaly and Johnny Logan's "What's Another Year"...
then there are still 15 of 19 left...
Of course, YOU stick with your modern choices - a look at your profile reveals that you don't seem to be interested that much in the first fourty years of the Contest...
That's absolutely okay and also that you like another style of music is absolutely okay, but I defend myself against such a phrase:
"I would hardly call many of these songs classics in any context, although it may bring into question the music taste of Eurovision fans in Belgium!"
It doesn't bring into question the musical taste of the Belgians - or anybody else who has a similar taste... One could also say it brings into question your taste...
But that would be also wrong - it doesn't bring anybody's taste into question - tastes are just different...
And once again: That you can't deny the classical character of the songs listed above - that is OUT of question...
Nocturne the best winner ever !!!!!
@ Max
What do you mean by classy? Ding A Dong, Ne partez, J'aime la Vie classy? Are you sure of that?
If the majority of songs listed above by RTL are classy, well I will happily stick with my unrefined, modern choices. Except What's Another Year and Nocturne - they are cracking songs!
@ DannyT
Tah, the majority of the listed songs have much more class than the ones you mentioned...
@ ws
I would hardly call many of these songs classics in any context, although it may bring into question the music taste of Eurovision fans in Belgium!
A song can only become a classic after some time. So I think it is only natural that there are no songs from the 21th century in this list. In twenty years time we will know what songs from recent years have become classics.
i love belgium. i just got back from spending a month there in Wallonia
Hard Rock Hallelujah, Divine, Wild Dances, My Number One... they are ten times better than 90% of the songs in that list.
Why are none from the 00s which have easily been the best years musically for the contest if not commercially. That Celine Dion song is horrific.
true fantasy: shut your mouth, you've never been to our chaotic country!
w s:
I was at the Schlager Pride last week and seeing Nicole and Hugo there, still wearing their purple suits, was great fun.
marc,
Belgium is a very nice country, wonderful people. I had the privilege of study ing in Hasselt one summer.
All people claiming Belgium is a boring country, never been there
I've never been there but I love Belgian chocolate and.......my most favourite hero out of a book was Belgian..Hercule Poirot
My top 3:
1. Frida Bocarra - Un jour un enfant
2. Isabelle Aubret - La source (brilliant lyrics!)
3. Nicola di Bari - I giorni dell' arcobaleno
SI LA VIE EST CADEU. A beautiful song sang by beautiful Corinne Hermes. What amazing song and performance Corinnes did 25 years ago.
Thanks Max my friend. All people claiming Belgium is a boring country, never been there. Belgium is underrated, not just on Eurovision, .... We have may a say the best cuisine in the world, the best beer, the best chocolate, world famous Fashion designers, Hooverphonic, beautiful cities, huge gay scene and on top of that probably the cheapest capital in the worl... Alle sante,....
@Stockholm, Nicole and Hugo are true cultstars in Belgium. I am not too fond of their music, but they are always fun too watch.
None are from the 2000s.
Sums it up nicely!
My favs :
Insieme - Toto Cutugno
White And Black Blues - Joëlle Ursull
Gente Di Mare - Tozzi & Raf
Si la vie est cadeau - Corinne Hermes
Tu te reconnaitras - Anne Marie David
L'oiseau et l'enfant - Marie Myriam
J'aime la vie - Sandra Kim
