No open national final

Internal selection for Belgium in 2009

It may still be another 10 months until the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 takes place in Moscow, Russia, but already several broadcasters are deciding how they will select their entry for next year. Belgium's selection process has now been confirmed to esctoday.com's partner website, Belgovision.com.

Belgium is the next country to reveal its plans, with French-language broadcaster RTBF confirming to partner site Belgovision.com that it will once again use an internal selection to select the Belgian contestant for Moscow.

RTBF, the French language broadcaster, and VRT, the Flemish language one, take it in turns to choose the Belgian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. While VRT usually embarks on a long-lasting Eurosong national final, RTBF prefers to choose internally, with varying levels of success - from a 2nd place for Urban Trad in Riga 2003 to a bottom 5 place in the semi final for the Krazy Mess Groovers in Helsinki 2007.

It is as yet unknown as to when RTBF will make the announcement about its selected song for 2009 or how the artists under consideration will be determined.

Mina:
To me Hungary sounds like the Swedish 1994 entry "Stjärnorna". The line "when you love me by sweet ..." is almost identical to the Swedish song.
Azerbaijan, Moldova, Turkey, Bosnia and San Marino are the songs I listen more often to :)

As this is a Belgian article - I hope Kate Ryan will appear in the Schlager Pride Eurovision show in Stockholm tonight :)

"The ones I listen to more often are the Russian one, the Norwegian one and the (shame on me, I know!) Latvian one." - lol, no shame there, I loved the Latvian one from the first time I heard it! :)

Jonny,
The last (3rd) hour of the show they were only playing ESC hits, and also some MF songs !?

Stockholm

Oh yeah I forgot about San Marino :) I only really started liking that song after I wated the semi live performance :) And there were also a few songs that I kind of lost interest in, they were: Georgia, Romania & Bulgaira :S

But anyway, thanks for the information about Radio International, i'll try and listen to the show tommorrow :)

Jonny,
from your list I only liked and still like Russia and Moldova. At 1st I liked Hungary too, until I realised it was identical to a Celine Dion song and it lost all its appeal for me.
I don't think any song has really 'grown on me'..it's more a case of songs 'growing off me'..lol..I used to like the Portuguese song but now it bores me to death..and I found the Armenian song 'sufferable' (I'm sure there's not such a word :P) but now I can't stand it...and the Israeli song also I find it a little boring these days.
The ones I listen to more often are the Russian one, the Norwegian one and the (shame on me, I know!) Latvian one.

Jonny,
Apart from Russia I liked those songs from the beginning. The Russian song has not yet grown on me but I still think they deserved to win. Their performance was great :)
The songs that grew on me were Portugal, San Marino, FYR Macedonia and even Norway.

It's Eurovision night on Radio International now. There was an interview with René Romkes about the Dutch selection.

& Serbia :)

"I wonder if there's something wrong with me - I voted for Azerbaijan and Bosnia"

lol, I would have voted for Bosnia! But Azerbaijan . . . . . I wouldn't have voted for that to save my life! :) Elnurs scary eyes freak me out a bit - http://ninablogg.fil(...)om/2008/05/elnur.jpg :)

LOL.
I wonder if there's something wrong with me - I voted for Azerbaijan and Bosnia :)

In Sweden we usually have hot summers but last year it was raining a lot.

T K :
"my grandfather spat at the screen when he saw laka... " - LOL!! :) You should have heard the noise my little brother made when he saw Samir, it was like a mixture of "OH MY GOD" and the highest pitched scream known to mankind! :) And then we told my little brother that we were going on holiday to Azerbaijan and he got really scared lol! :)

Stockholm/Mina:
It sounds as if we're all having hot summers! :) I'm soooo not used to this amazing weather! :) (Is it winter for you T K!?) ;)

HAHAHA I can imagine that scene!

Mina/Jonny:

When I watched the KMG video yesterday I was also struck by the similarities between "Love Power" and "Even if". Perhaps that's why I liked the UK entry.
I think "Je t'adore" is my favourite Belgian entry but I like their 2002, 2004 and 2007 songs as well. If I should pick a ballad I'd say 1993 "Iemand als jij".

And we're having a very hot summer too, about 30 degrees.

Oh dear, it seems that Elnur & Samir caused quite a few freaked out reactions all around europe then! ;) Although, had my parents watched the semis, I dread to think what they would have said about Gisela's dress lol! :) Or Slovenias porn/dance routine :S

(Just out of interest, what is the temperature in Athens at the moment? Because we are having our hottest summer for years and on Monday, it was 31 degrees celsius in my garden! I want to find out if we've reached mediterranean levels yet! :))

It's 33 C but it feels hotter.

My favorite Belgian entry ever is " Rendez-vous"....

Wed 30 Jul 2008 15:28:36

Jonny,
1 life was one of my favourites, too..I was talking about the last 4 yrs Belgian entries ;)

And you don't want to know what my dad said when he saw (and heard) Elnur :P

"You should see my mum's face...when they showed a close up of Laka's eyes she was terrified..lolllllll"
lol, I can see why! :) And as for Laka's sister . . . . . *shiver* I don't know what she it on but it ain't good! :) Oh and you should have heard the noise my little brother made when a close up of Samir came on! :)

"About Belgian entries, Love Power last year sounded like Even if this year, didn't it?"
Yup I agree :) I like them both, and whilst I think Andy gave a better performance than the KMG's, I prefer "Lovepower" slightly, although I like them both alot :)

"Now if I had to choose a favourite entry from the last 4 years it would be Le grand soir"
OMG Mina, major disagreement!! :) Along with "Lorraine", "Le grand Soir" is one of my least favourite entries of 2005, its the sort of song that never seems to finish, and goes on for ages and ages and ages, and (in my opinion) is rather boring! :) My favourite Belgian entry has to be "Sister", "Lovepower" or "1 life", because both those songs make me want to dance! :)

@johnny: my grandfather spat at the screen when he saw laka...
my cousin almost wet her pants at azerbaijan, shame u guys probz wont get this joke but we all dubbed samir the paddle pop lion, and when my grandma finally got it she fell off the lounge in laughter..

when Bosnia-Herz came on . . . . . well you can imagine what they were thinking!

Many hilarious moments with Bosnia this year, I should have voted for them only for the funny moments they gave me. You should see my mum's face...when they showed a close up of Laka's eyes she was terrified..lolllllll

About Belgian entries, Love Power last year sounded like Even if this year, didn't it? Similar style.
Now if I had to choose a favourite entry from the last 4 years it would be Le grand soir.. I liked that song much more than Je t'adore (which I also liked)...but I prefer ballads so it's no surpise :P

That sounds hilarious! :) I had the same experience last year when Ukraine came on, when I spoke to one of my friends the next day she assumed that all Ukrainians spoke German! :) :D And I watched it with my family again this year, and when Bosnia-Herz came on . . . . . well you can imagine what they were thinking! :)

Jacques Dusart:
I guess it's a matter of taste. I prefer some of the Flemish entries. Ishtar wasn't one of my favourites this year though but I liked the Belgian entry last year.

Jacques Dusart [34344]
Wed 30 Jul 2008 13:21:30

@Stockholm calling ,
To say that the Flanders sending the best entries, is a joke! Look at the results of the French-speaking entries and the flemish ones...And Isthar is the worst entry ever for me!

@marc x,
The problems in Belgium are only political, and the majority of the Belgians want to still live together, besides some separatists frustrated and intolerant.

Mina Carnation [51405]

I can imagine viewers all around europe thinking "what are they taking in Belgium!???!"

LOL that reminded me of a friend's reaction....ofcourse I knew the songs from months before so I wasn't surprised...she didn't. So we were watching Ishtar and she turned to me and said 'what language do they speak in Belgium? I thought they spoke French?' LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL

"that song was like it belonged to a fairytale or something, not on a Eurovision scene"

For me thats what I liked so much about it :) For me it would have been a great qualifier, but to be honest you are right in saying that it wasn't right for eurovision. I can imagine viewers all around europe thinking "what are they taking in Belgium!???!" :) :D :L
