France: Cindy and Mourad struggle for Eurovision

It is extremely rare for Eurovision to be a matter of discussion so early in France. By the way, this is no official information but only two artists who have recently expressed their will to represent their country in Moscow next year: Cyndi Sander and Mourad.

First on line is Cindy Sander. The singer, aged 30, has been rejected for the final line-up of candidates at this year's Pop Idol (Nouvelle star in France), on private channel M6. The girl found the decision not justified, she complained and received good feedback from the public. That's how she managed to make a deal with Sony-BMG France and had her song Papillon de lumière on CD single. Her song reached 14th place some weeks ago in the official French sales list. She was even invited during a prime-time Pop Idol episode. Most of the articles written on her show how she worked hard to get fame... but also make a joke on her.

To keep the media attention on her, Cyndi recently made a statement in at least 2 magazines. In Voici, the lady talked about Sébastien Tellier, this year’s French entrant. “I do like people living on another planet, I am that kind of peole, but this year, he was really too strange. It is time for France to win Eurovision again. I already tried three times to be selected. If I am chosen, I will do my best”.

Another potential entrant is Mourad. The man has his own Myspace website with the following invitation: "Mourad wants Eurovision. Say yes to his candidacy and click here". The website of the singer gives a lot of details on his career, which mostly consisted in concerts given everywhere in France, mostly on summer tours with other artists. Born with Tunisian origins (like Amina's), Mourad met Natasha St-Pier (France 2001) and Corneille (France 2006's composer and lyricist) 4 years ago "in a memorable concert" in the east of France. More original is the fact that Mourad's biography is to be found in Russian, as the artist frequently travelled and sang there.

Information on the man and 4 songs to be listened to can be found here and on his official Myspace here.

Special thanks to Jef.

Lorie isn't popular anymore ? Hmm, pity - her songs are quite suitable for the ESC but I guess she's no good live singer anyway.Chimene Badi with a great ballad would work well IMO...if she's not popular anymore too is a plus this time, as popular artists won't be interested in the ESC anyway I fear :(. Same goes for Najoua Belizel - if she's not popular anymore good, simply ask her and maybe she agrees to represnt France !

As for Cindy and Mourad....I was hoping for the Cindy from the UK 2007 too ! Why doesn't Bruno ask her ? Or did she totally disappear ?

Mourad seems like a good choice - he even looks a bit like Dima so with a similar song like " Belive " or " Never let you go " he might be successful too. Plus Bruno talked about some ethno pop for France 09, and I am sure Mourad could sing such a song - voila, perfect match ;). Still think he should sing somekind of Bilan song in Moscow....including a similar strong performance, of course cause a good song alone won't score anymore.

I prefer Mourad, he sounds good. I think the best French ballad is "Je n'ai que mon âme" but their 2002 entry is great too. Last year I voted for "Les Fatals Picards". I loved them :)

France has better singers and artists than those tasteless girls

but the best singers of France WOULD NEVER participate in the Eurovision Song Contest!

Virginie Pouchain represented France in 2006 but she's completely unknown there. Still, the viewing rates were miles higher than this year's contest!

France should either ask a big and professional artist to take part OR make a big national final and let the French public decide! Mourad seems to get lots of positive comments but the French TV can't propose him since he's unknown

Let French people decide and not get pressure from two unknown artists, though Cindy Sander is having some little hit with an awful song. Cindy is seen as a joke in France and i'm not sure that France Television would ask her to be our entry next year. Furthermore she has signed a contract with M6 music, which (hopefully) may ban her from the contest.
As far as Mourad is concerned, he 's also unknown and France needs someone more famous than him.
To answer Marcell : Eve Angeli, Lorie, Chimene Badi & Najoua Belkizel are no longer popular here. Eve is seen as a stupid girl and as an artistic joke, Lorie will never do the Eurovision, Chimene has disappeared from the French music scene for months, and nobody remembers Najoua Belizel. France has better singers and artists than those tasteless girls

Mourad is a good surprise. He's not known in France, in the mass media I mean. It could be a good opportunity for France, as he has been awarded by the city of Moscow for his talent...

Come on France 3, don't be silly that time ! Try to make it good !

I hope for Eve Angeli, Lorie, Chimene Badi or Najoua Belyzel... :)

Nobody like Corinne Hermes. 25 years after her victory, still active in the French music scene, she could try again to do Eurovision, this time for her homeland.

And anyway..the "Cindy-trend" has lasted for roughly a month, it's over since long ago now ;)
Now she just has to relax in her house with her "composer-husband-stylist-with-no-taste-at-all" and not bother us...and hopefully not THREATEN us...Please.
:)

@Christina:
I like Murad as well, well i mean this one clip i watched with him. Kalomoira, the ESC 2008 greek paricipants comes also from such a show, and i liked her in the ESC very much.
This Cindy has for me an unattractive aura, not nice, i hope France will come up with something better in the next contest

Mourad: classy music, he has my vote!
Cindy: I don't know her, but I'm not usually that keen about singers coming from TV shows such as Pop Idol. Of course, there are exceptions.

Am it hte only ne here, who finds Cindy not good at all? To me she is and above all she looks very amateurish on the clips i watched. She bviously can not dance very well, her voice is just ok, and her aura is for me not good at all. I prefer Mourad..about the french chanchons with the "big key change": i do not think this type of song is anymore popular in the ESC, its glory times are long past. Sebastian's song was a nice one indeed, a type of song, which one would also like to listen to at home without the ESC show, but for me it was in no way so impressing as to vote and spend mney on it

"They're doing something wrong those French..lol"
LOL Mina, we've known that for years!! :) They had a great song in 2004 aswell but they ruined it with the egyptian mummification look! :)

Euro Sheep

LOL, who needs a French GCSE when Google can come up with some pretty handy translators!!! :) Although as for my French GCSE, hmmm put it this way, I wish i'd chosen Spanish!! :) French is a great language but its so bloody hard!!!!! :)

But anyway, my French is a bit comme ci comme ça!! ;) I know how to say "do you speak english" and thats the main thing, unfortunately the answer isn't always the one you want when you're in France!! :)

Although I love the French language I admit it's very rare for me to find a french song appealing, I don't know why. I usually find them either boring or strange...and when I like the song, I don't like the presentation (that happened to me both in 2007 and 2008). They're doing something wrong those French..lol

@ Jonny K
That is exactly what we need next year from France!!! A great big ballad à la Sandrine François complete with wind and smoke machines and a great big key change!!!

Then we will be off to gay Paris, if not that then the French could be happy with a good placing!

And thumbs up Jonny for the amazing language skills - A* in GCSE French, I think? :P

I have to admit I am really liking the current French entries, Sebastien was unique and Les fatales were just so fantastic! :) But if there is one thing I miss from France it is a stonking great massive huge power ballad!! :) They haven't sent us one since 2002 :S

But keep up the good work France, c'est fantastique! :) J'adore les entrées françaises!! :) :D :L

I think the word "struggle" is very appropriate when it comes to these two singers!!! :D

And where does Cindy get off saying Sébastian was "really too strange"? For one, did she not see Elnur and Samir?! And secondly, at least he got to ESC, something she can only dream of with her dodgy voice!!! ^_^ harsh I know, but true...

Sébastian was awesome! Bravo France, c'était génial!!!

Cindy looks so Belarussian ! lol ! I think that she isn't the right person for France ! Here in France there's more people who is laughin' at her than people who like her songs !

I think that Mourad can be a possible contestant we'll see ! He looks like Amr Diab an Egyptian singer !

I thnk Mourad would get a top 10 for France once again! I didn't like Cindy =/

I saw some of Cindy's songs on youtube . . . . . . hhmmmmm . . . . interesting . . . . but like Sebastien, probably won't do well at eurovision. Why don't they send the Cyndi from Making your mind up 2007 instead? :) She was French :)

(I genuinely hope France get a good result this year, after two undeservedly bad results in recent years they need a good result and a good result could improve their viewing figures aswell, which can only be a good thing! :L)

My boyfriend sent me some links to Cindy's songs and OMG she is really no good at all! (he didn't like her either and we had a good laugh about it), I get the impression the French see her more as a slightly humours comic act than a serious singer with real talent (Just my impression from my BF and his friends) so either the perfect French candidate if they want to continue their bad run or the worst candidate if they really want to do well next year.

Mourad looks like he could be a good candidate!

Cindy seems to be known to the French public and that means an increased interest to Eurovision if she's selected but i doubt.

I would prefer a more well-known artist..talent doesn't matter it seems!

i find this girl so bad in singing and performing that her clip in yu tube just depresses me, and i do not think France would ever assign her the task to represent France, whose ESC fortune in the past years is not that big, anyway..Mourad seems to sing much better, he looks like a nice guy, i think the possibility of him representing France is not bad at all....

Everything but Cindy...if there's a justice in the world...!
Mourad seems interesting...Wait and see!
