Prime Minister clears doubts up
Putin: "Eurovision will be held in Moscow"
Moscow has been definitely elected as the host city for the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest. This is due to the higher development of Moscow's facilities, infrastructure and the possibility to minimize expenditures on the event. The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, cleared up the doubts on which city would host 2009 Eurovision during a meeting of the Presidium of the Federal Government.
Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Zhukov has been instructed by Putin to develop a plan for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Zhukov also stated that the final of the 2009 event is scheduled to be held on May 16th and Olimpiiski Stadium is very likely to become the venue.
Russia won the right to host 2009 Eurovision Song Contest thanks to Dima Bilan's victory with the song Believe last May in Belgrade.

armenia, russia, ukraine, turkey, serbia, bosnia herzegovina an greece will be for sure for ever in top 5
Turkey, Serbia and Bosnia weren't in the top 5 this year.
lol
what i really know?from now and on armenia, russia, ukraine, turkey, serbia, bosnia herzegovina an greece will be for sure for ever in top 5
And for me this position of Russia is the best evidence that these theories of "eastern bloc" entries alwaus win or that everybody in the east votes for Russia no matter what the song is, are not very correct...
Definitely Vincent. The only easterners who vote for Russia no matter what are ex soviets, noone else.
Russia 2005 was not at all a good entry, this girl looked so lifeless on stage..the song was for me ok, but her performance and her aura pretty bad..i think the 15th place was pretty right. And for me this position of Russia is the best evidence that these theories of "eastern bloc" entries alwaus win or that everybody in the east votes for Russia no matter what the song is, are not very correct...It is time to admit it, a top10 entry needs much more votes than the diaspora, the political and the neighbouring vote..i am convinced of this
Apparently because of your keyboard the song's title can't be read. Anyway the english title was Not that simple.
That's right!
"Ti dolzhna ryadom bit' " - is a russian version.
By the way Nobody hurt noone was also a very good song and I think Russia deserved more than the 15th place that year...I don't know why they didn't get more votes. Honestly I dont like this song and as long as I remember even in Russia it was not popular at all. Natalia had the chance to make a musical career but she only managed to marry V.Presnyakov, another not very talented singer whose peak of career ended 15 years ago.
Actually I preferred Nobody hurt noone both to the Tatu and the Serebro's songs. Goes to show you never know with Europe.
lower instead of longer
In my opinion, Nobody Hurt No One was a terrible song...
I can't understand that it didn't end up much longer - oh, but yes, indeed, I CAN understand...
Bilan tried in NF-2005 with his song Ты должна Ñ€Ñдом быть (its eng version)

Candyman 12 points
"OMG he tried in 2005 as well? it seems he was so desperate to take part in Eurovision! (a big star competing in a NF?)
i think fan's favourite was another song from a female artist i can't remember at the moment... how the heck that horrible "american"type song won in the NF in 2005?"
Some interesting facts that you guys maybe dont know.
Yes, Bilan tried in NF-2005 with his song Ты должна рядом быть (its eng version). He was the favourite of NF . Bilan was young but famouse enough and much popular that time then Natalia Podol'skaya.
2. The resalts of Russian NF-2oo5 were garbled (as well as this year by 2 channel ). Podolskaya won ( with the profit 5% over Bilan) because the first Russian Channel was interested to send its "own" artist. (that time Podolskaya had just won Fabrika Zvezd, First Channel "product".)
It's not an achievement to get pts from ex-soviet countries only, honey.
But the thing is that Russia didn't get pts only from ex soviet countries.
Russia got high points by most eastern countries plus a good amount of points by south europe (greece, cyprus, andorra, malta, spain, portugal) and Israel and it only got low or no votes by a few western countries and I don't see why that should be considered a failure.
Why should the taste of 3 scandinavian countries (who didn't vote for Greece either), Uk, San Marino and Switzerland ( the only western countries who didn't vote for Russia) count more than the taste of the rest 37 countries?
And Finland isn't that far away from Russia, is it? It's like you're saying Bulgaria gave 10pts to Greece. Big deal. And Greece-Cyprus are far from Western countries. Count immigrants as well.
So what if Finland isn't far??? Only votes from countries who are far should count? Because in that case, with the votes we (Greece) got from Scandinavians/ex Soviets, who are the farthest countries from Greece, we would be last..LOL
Finland being close to Russia doesn't mean a thing..last year they gave them just 3 pts so it's not like they always give them high points.
Greece and Cyprus ofcourse aren't western countries and I didn't say they are..I just said they aren't eastern countries.
greece and cyprus are neither east not westthey are south-east mediterenean countries. For me Turkey is also politically not at all east..but europe is europe, east or west...
so what if Russia wouldn't win if only western countries voted? Is there some law that says that the western countries' votes are worth more than the eastern countries' votes? And I don't see why you make it seem like a big achievement that Serebro got points from the Uk..so what?
2nd how exactly was Greece ignored by eastern countries? 12 pts by Albania, 10 pts by Bulgaria, 12 pts by Romania, 8 pts by Serbia, 8 pts by Armenia, 7 pts by Bosnia, 8 pts by Hungary, 6 pts by Azerbaijan, I would hardly call that 'being ignored'.
Unless you meant by ex soviet countries, well they always give us very low votes anyway, except when Sakis went to Eurovision.
You're saying that because the song was in English, they wouldn't understand it, so why vote for it?
Then, according to you, Molitva should have never won since not that many ppl speak Serbian? The music, the performance, the artist don't matter?
Darling, i just showed you that eastern votes made him win by ignoring the big favourites like Greece and Ukraine (Armenia by Baltic states)
U mentioned Serebro that failed to gain enough pts to win.. well it was some kind of victory for them to get pts from..the United Kingdom as UK didn't even vote for Russia when they sent tATu!! It's not an achievement to get pts from ex-soviet countries only, honey.
Not only Greece, but Armenia was ignored by Baltic states and Azerbaijan. Ukraine could have gotten more pts as they did the previous years.
About the language of the song; why they voted for it? Because it was RUSSIA! If Greece or Turkey had this song as their entry, they would have given it a big ZERO!
I thought it would be interesting to point out that Moscow has become the most expensive city in the world according to the BBC -
OH THANK YOU for the link. some persons here tried to prove the opposite! lol!
I was talking about high pts, OMG. And Finland isn't that far away from Russia, is it? It's like you're saying Bulgaria gave 10pts to Greece. Big deal. And Greece-Cyprus are far from Western countries. Count immigrants as well.
Jonny:
"Conversely, some locations such as Stockholm and New York now appear less costly by comparison."
I was afraid that they would say that Stockholm is one of the most expensive cities.
Jonny,
you shouldn't have posted that link! The 2nd most expensive European city after Moscow is London...who will vote for you now?!
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
And btw he wasn't voted only by eastern countries, Belgium gave him 3 points, Ireland and Spain gave him 5 points, Portugal 6 points, Norway 5 points, Germany 7 points, Finland 10 points, Greece 7 pts, Cyprus 8 pts, Andorra 5 points, Malta 8 points...those aren't easten countries, are they?
Candyman,

oh about 2005, Russia got 10pts less ONLY! than the points RUS received in 2004.
I don't know if you saw the stats esctoday published right after the 2008 final results... Russia wouldn't have won if Western countries voted only. And they were 1st by margin counting eastern votes only... guess why! lol
if bilan's song was in Russian, i would understand, but in English?? LOOL i doubt if they understood a single word of what he sang (native English speakers didn't understand a thing though)
The thing is that he did win and he did come 2nd. Serebro weren't even 2nd...why didn't those block votings help them win last year? Or you mean to say that the ONE ex soviet country that was added this year, Azerbaijan, with the 8 pts they gave to Russia, gave them the victory?LOL
And how can you say they were close? Serebro were 61 pts behind Serbia, and 27 pts behind Ukraine..I wouldn't call that close.
Was it just a coincidence that both times Dima went to eurovision he had such good results?
Serebro had to face Serbia (block voting) and Ukraine (which got votes from western countries as well). Diva Bilan's most pts were from eastern countries while Serebro got more pts from western countries than Dima Bilan did! They were even voted by the UKpublic!!
And wake up honey, i was talking about tATu that they were close to win, not Serebro.
And Dima Bilan was voted only by eastern countries, while Greece was ignored, Ukraine got less than previous years except the Georgian votes and Armenia was ignored by Azerbaijan and Baltic states.
Facts
2005- 6 ex soviet countries voted (not counting Russia)...Russia 15th
2006-7 ex soviet countries voted......Russia 2nd
2007-8 ex soviet countried voted.....Russia 3rd
2008-9 ex soviet countries voted.....Russia 1st
The 1st time Dima took part in eurovision, although only one ex soviet country was added, he managed to take Russia from 15th to 2nd.
The 2nd time he took part, again, only one ex soviet country more than 2007, he managed to win with 40 pts more than the 2nd country...whereas Russia's difference from the winner last year was 61 pts!
If those results aren't enough to say he's good at what he does, I don't know what is.
Oh and don't make me tell you..how he "brought" these results! In 2006, he was unlucky because Finland was stronger as Estonia gave them 12p instead of Russia (both neighbours) and the 2008 ESC was easier for them to win since neither Greece nor Ukraine had as many block votings as Russia had.

Was it just a coincidence that both times Dima went to eurovision he had such good results?
I don't think so
Like him or not, in Dima's 2 participations in eurovision he was no 1 and no 2. Right before him in 2004 Russia was 15th. Right after him Russia was 3rd..and let's wait for the 2010 result.
The truth is that he's brought Russia great results both times. I don't know what more could they expect from him
In 2004, Russia was 11th not 15th. In 2003, they were close to the 1st place
So what if Russia came 3rd in 2007? Serebro deserved it and maybe even more..
The 2010 result won't be top 3 i think. I mean look at the hosts every year since 2005. they're doing bad from what they expected to do (greece in 2006, serbia in 2008 were even favourites to win!)
So it would have been a piece of cake for any1 to win for Russia this year,.... my dear, haven't u heard for some things that....."they were meant to be"?
Still, he didn't prove how "big" he is as an artist and of course his song didn't have any impact on charts
and nobody is forgetting the fact that Greece and Turkey are in Eurovision for decades
and they were underrated for years but now things changed LOL
I'm not fussy, I just told you what the term eastern Europe really means. If you rather use geography then ok, Finland is eastern Europe too.
But if you judge geographically then Czech Republic and Slovenia belong to western Europe since they are directly above and below Austria, right? Or is Austria eastern, too?
