[UPD] Spain: RTVE president explains Rodolfo's election

This Tuesday June 24th, the president of RTVE Corporation, Luis Fernández, will explain the process that led Rodolfo Chikilicuatre to represent Spain last May in Belgrade at the Spanish Parliament. This comes after a query registered by a member of the conservative People's Party.

The selection process used by TVE to choose the Spanish representative for Belgrade 2008 was strongly supported by the public broadcaster. After some controversy surrounding the previous online voting via MySpace and the results of the National Final on March 8th, when Rodolfo Chikilicuatre won the right to represent Spain at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, TVE's programming director Eva Cebrián stated that Rodolfo enjoyed full support from the broadcaster "to the furthest consequences".

Now, opposition group People's Party (conservative) demands an explanation. Its member Ms María del Carmen Álvarez Cisneros registered a petition days ago in order to request Fernández's presence this Tuesday in the Chamber to explain all the procedure followed by TVE, wich in the end brought Rodolfo Chikilicuatre to Belgrade.

UPDATE

Luis Fernández attended the Spanish Parliament this morning. The president of RTVE defended the "open and democratic" procedure that the public broadcaster used to choose the 2008 representative for Eurovision. According to Mr Fernández, the MySpace selection process "respected all the legal warranties, and as a proof of its validity, other European countries such as Germany, Ireland, Norway and Turkey are going to implement it" in their national selections for Eurovision.

Opposition party PP answered Mr Fernández complaining about the "ridiculous" performance of Rodolfo Chikilicuatre and the embarrassment for Spanish people. The conservative and leading opposition group in the Spanish Parliament also accused Mr Fernández and RTVE of "preventing many young hopeful people from representing their country and being watched by millions of viewers".

Son del Sol , Las Ketchup and especially Nash with the horribe G :Son song were an embarrassment ! Those taking Rodolfo seriously or even discuss that whole act at the parliament don't really understand the ESC ! It was just fun, something like Guildo, Raab, Alf Poier or Verka - gosh.

If I were Spanish I would find the PP far more embarrassing than Rodolfo Chikilicuatre.

the one who deserved all the boos and the bliaaaahs of the night was Gisella and her silly, repeating cheap party anthem..she was even worse than Morena, who had also ne of the worst songs of the night.

I just saw the update. I don't believe other countries are thinking about trying this.
If anyone comes from those countries, perhaps they can tell us if they've heard it before.

Lies, lies and more lies. Norway, Germany, Turkey, Finland and Ireland interested in MySpace method? Don't make me laugh, Mr Fernández.

He has even said that Andorra and France were favourites to win...

Ha ha ha!! What a liar! Norway isn't interested in the MySpace fraud because NRK has just engaged the Melodi 2009.
Mr Fernandez, please, don't get more ridiculous!

Mario,
WOW Gisela is really clueless, isn't she? She STILL hasn't realized her dress/horns/singing were bad???
And about those ''fans'' who booed Rodolfo, she should be ashamed of THEM, not of the spanish entry.

Mario Mir [44111]

Well, Gisela seemed to be very proud of her song and told that she failed because Andorra was not a"politically relevant country" and said "you all know ESC is mainly a political contest".
She told she was among the fans that booed Rodolfo intensively and so she felt a lot of shame of the Spanish entry. In fact, she wanted to mean that TVE could chose her for sending a more decent entry.

@Mina Carnation(the best surname i have ever heard :-)

i can not stop watching this song. Such a pitty it never made it and instead we saw some idiots singing for Greece back then. I think it is so ufair, that i still think MLV should try to make it t the ESC stage, although it will not be easy to get again such a good song composed. anyway...

@ all:
i suppose there have beeen many many unjustisies in every country and in every national finals. Often people do not vote for the best song, but for their favourite and big star, sometimes there are pure political reasons behind, like the NF 2005 in Ukraine, when Ani Lorak came second after a pro revolution group or the spanish case 2008. I think after such a decision the one who suffers most are the performer who comes second in the NF and people who liked and supported this song. That is the case for me, even 6 years later of this song, who came 2nd in the Greek NF, and out of strange reasons I had never hd the chance to see this performed in the exciting stage of the ESC

This is not a matter of whether there remains one song or another.
It is a FRAUD conducted by RTVE and La Sexta through the operation carried out through Myspace and televoting.
In Spain we have a lot of political corruption and media corruption.

When RTVE was led by the People's Party were the best performers in the ESC. David Civera (2001), Rosa (2002), Beth (2003) and Ramon (2004), some of them from Operacion Triunfo (Portugal program that still use or Israel for the election of its representative). The ESC where Rosa participated has been the most-watched program in the history of RTVE. And now RTVE and The Sixth wanted overcome with Chiki and have not succeeded.

Mario,
it doesn't matter if they agreed or not. I agree too...I mean I hated that song, too, but she should let the Spanish decide if they're ashamed of Rodolfo or not. I don't understand why SHE would be ashamed. And like I said, she had plenty of things to be ashamed of, from her own performance. After all Rodolfo was dressed with the intention of being funny. What was her excuse? :P
