Warm reception from the audience
Portugal: Vānia joined celebrations of national day
The 10th of June is the Day of Portugal and every year the celebrations take place at different city in the country chosen by the President. In 2008, the city of Viana do Castelo, in the North of Portugal, was where the festivities took place. During the morning there was a military parade and in the afternoon the Portuguese national broadcaster put upa four-hour-long special show.
In this show, Vânia performed her entry Senhora do Mar and closed the show with a fado from Mariza Fado, meu Fado. There were several hundred people watching the show and Vânia was warmly received by the audience. Everybody wanted to have an autograph or to take a photo with her. She was congratulated many times on her performanmce at the Eurovision Songcontest.
On Wednesday, Vânia participated in the "Pateo Alfacinha" morning show on RTP. This show marked the celebration of Saint Anthony's Festivities in the Portuguese capital. On the same day she was a special guest in the festivities at the city of Famalicão. She was honoured by her hometown of Funchal for her contribution to music and the promotion of Madeira Island in Portugal and around Europe.

Stockholm calling
Oh yeah, I see him now!!
And yeah, the presenters were awesome, probably some of the best i've watched in the contest.
In fact I would love a Swedish hosted contest again, although I suppose melodifestivalen is like a Swedish "mini-eurovision", so that will keep me happy!
Jonny K:
Yeah, I loved the postcards in 2000. I think the presenters were good too. If you look at the picture of the article "Sweden: Melodifestivalen & MGP a .." about the TV sing-along show you may recognize the presenter Anders Lundin. (That thread will probably disappear from the front page soon).
I liked the Serbian postcards too.
Stockholm calling:
Great!! The ESC 2000 is one of my favourite editions also, it was so modern and huge, comparative to previous eurovisions. And thats an interesting fact about the German postcard, I really liked the esc 2000 postcards. Its much nicer to see interesting and creative postcards rather than the normal ones that just cry out "TOURISTS!!!!!". So I was grateful this year when Serbia made more interesting postcards!
Jonny K:
Btw, inspired by you I watched the 2000 contest yesterday. It's one of my favourite ESC's. You know, that German postcard was filmed abt 3 minutes' walk from where I live in the centre of the town. Günther, the man in the video was famous for his German sausages. He passed away recently.
Jonny K:
lol. You ARE kind
Stockholm Calling:
I think you are the peace-maker of esctoday, where would we be without you?!!!??!!
Jonny K:
Thanks!
Stockholm Calling:
Don't worry, ofcourse we're not angry with you!!! In fact its good that you pick up on such comments and make sure people don't get carried away
Mina:
OK
There's no reason why the Irish and Ukrainians should hate you. Dustin and Verka are two nice good-looking men in disguise, aren't they
Stockholm,
of course noone is angry at you
It's easy to misunderstand things in writing.
By the way, I doubt that Verka and Dustin's child would ever be a swan because they were both ugly
(now with that comment both the Irish and the Ukrainians will hate me..lol)
Mina Carnation/Jonny K:
I guess you're angry with me now
I'm sure that you Mina meant no harm and I admit that I've read much worse comments on her. I also know how easily you get carried away by a situation. Of course I read the entire conversation, I more or less initiated it.
It was really not my intention to scold anyone but to contribute to the Dustin-Verka topic. My suggestion was "The Ugly Duckling" (which eventually turned out to be a beautiful swan) but I sort of lost track
Thanks Jonny. Of course I wasn't being serious and if someone went to the trouble to read all the convo, would see that I just answered your comment when you said hey this is an article about Vania and we're talkin about Dustin and Verka..then you added their child would look like Barney and I just thought of a way to combine this article with our discussion in a humorous (that was my intention at least) way.
About Minas joke about Barney:
I don't think she meant it in an insulting way at all, and she wasn't being serious when she said it. OK, if someone seriously compared Vania to Barney it would be insulting, but I don't think Mina genuinley thinks Vania looks like Barney.
(Barney is very cute though!)
Mina:
I don't know if this is a typical "Nordic" thing or if it's just me but I don't find jokes about peoples' looks at all funny. And believe me, I've got a great sense of humour
Stockholm,
it goes to show how different southerners and northerners are.
I'm glad at least I said I liked Vania...God forbid if I said I didn't like her.
lollllll
Mina:
I agree with Danny T. I didn't appreciate your joke about Vania either.
On the other hand I can see Barney as a combination of Verka and Dustin
But why Danny,
Barney is cute
@ mina
that is so mean comparing vania to barney the dinosaur!
Oooh bugger!!
haha i've just realised, this is an article about Vania Fernandes and we're talking about what Dustin and Verka's children will look like!!
(Actually they'll probably end up looking like barney the dinosaur!) - http://blog.clevelan(...)10/medium_barney.jpg
Still won't open.
Jonny,
I can't open that link
"Well, Vania could look like Barney, too, if she was purple and had short hair."
hahahah lol Mina I love your jokes!!!
Well, Vania could look like Barney, too, if she was purple and had short hair.

' OMG, I just thought, if Dustin and Verka had a child, what would it look like!??'?'

lol
@ Florian

But it is kind of true
