love the song! but i hate the clip, so budget n dodgy :P
but the island of madeira does look gorgeous...

honestly i kinda agree with danny bout takin the piss outta the contest. whilst im not a fan of either the irish or spanish entries, anyone who takes this contest seriously needs a reality check! its a joke n thats that! everyone takes the piss out of it, and its anything but the epitome of A-grade music.. its the spectacle of the esc that is what makes it fantastic

The lyrics don't really fit with the happy touristic scenes!

The video is poor....The music and the poem ask for something more dramatic with the sea.

It's really not much of a video, and they all look like they've just fallen out of by, but crikey moses what a gorgeous song!!

It was a joke, sorry!!! I went to Portugal and it was lovely!!! I stayed in the western Algarve, and some of the beaches were stunning!!
You live in an awesome country! ;)

I think Ukraine last year is a whole different argument (I don't see the difference between these entries and it) :)

I think though ideally Eurovision would be about expressing each countries culture, and Ireland went for that last year and look were it ended. It wasn't a great performance but did it really only deserve 5 points from an Albanian jury when I think Armenia managed 7th with a very dull song. The voting system just doesn't lend itself to countries without diaspora or neighbours (but that is a whole other debate there!)

I think the comedy is as much a part of Eurovision as any other style as it does add to the show and is definitely the reason it has stayed popular, and that is why I like Ireland's entry because it does represent our sense of humour. The Spanish entry I like more because of the two girls messing up the routine and falling over!

I think a lot of people would be bored if we got nice ballad after nice ballad from each country.

*the Portuguese entry- on the contrast- ...

I think the last that this contests needs is entries which ridicule it!
Well, I can see that some people find the turkey to be fun (I don't, to me, it's simply childish... I am a big fan of irony but not in this contest or in terms of music!) but come on, the Spanish guy does nothing except looking horrible.
And I am pretty sure that both of these acts will fail BADLY (Spain for sure, about Irelnd... we'll see), they can in no way be compared with Ukraine last year!

The Portuguese on the contrast entry represents quality! It has everything a Eurovision- winner needs!
A wonderful composition, a maginifcent singer and the ability to tell a beautiful and touching story typically of the country!
This is what Eurovision is about- sharing the values of one's culture. This is anything but boring and much better than some cheap joke- songs!

Russia deserves to win more than Portugal in my opinion. Not this year though :)

What country deserves to win eurovision than poor Portugal?? To have entered since 1964 and never even been in the top 5. Good luck Portugal but I don't think this will be your first winner.

@ Florian G
I have never once said that the Irish or Spanish entries are great examples of music (although I think the Irish song is still better than people give it credit for), what I have said all along though is that they are excellent entries into this competition. Now this is the part you have to hear me out :)

What they lack in music credibility they make up for in the hilarity of the performances (I was in fits of laughter the first time I seen them both) and also the shrewdness of what they are actually doing, which is taking the piss out of the contest they are performing in (The contest deserves to have the piss taken out of it too!).

Also, while Spain's lyrics may be slight gibberish, the Irish song is very witty and represents the Irish sense of humour very well, slightly self-deprecating in begging for points but laughing about it too while describing the farce of the voting at Eurovision very plainly.

Adding to this, that I cannot wait to see what they actually do in Belgrade, the buzz around them and the fact they are really catchy, I think they are brilliant.
Portugal doesn't do that for me at all. Sorry I wrote quite a bit there!

Well, Danny, you can accuse the Portuguese song of being poor, tastes vary ... but the fact that you think that the entries from Ireland and Spain are great music says it all.

This video is just screaming out VISIT PORTUGAL!!!! :) :D The best bit is when you see the guy playing golf!! It has no relation to the song whatsoever!!! Its a pretty cool video though, so good luck to Portugal from the UK!!!! :L :D

Go Portugal! Your song deserves to win this year! It's my favourite by far.

A promotional video of the Portuguese Madeira Islands rather than a real music video production. Yet, that doesn't in any way take the merit of this wonderful and TRUELY eurovision song, which in my opinion is a masterpiece! Go Vânia - be a star on stage just like Ronaldo is on the field! :)

A bit late for this video now, isn't it? Good song from Portugal, though. Kind of ironical that the best Portuguese entry in over 10 years was composed by a Croat!

senhora GOMAR, senhora TOMAR, senhora MOULAR

Portugal have done poorly in the past because they have sent some truly abysmal songs (such as that awful Sabrina song last year everyone seems to love. why??) and honestly although this song is not abysmal, there is nothing special about it either.

I would never listen to it if it wasn't at Eurovision, and the cheap sounding orchestral production really lets it down. What it does have going for it is that she has a great voice but unfortunately that doesn't stop the song being poor at best.

Also, Darren Smith couldn't have described the music video in any better way.

Aah, it's good to see an old "travelogue" preview video again (yes I know it's not the official video, but...). This is just like the preview videos the likes of Turkey, Cyprus and Greece used to send every year in the 1980s. :D
