Win a signed press kit of Hero!
Sweden: Interview with Charlotte Perrelli
Hi Charlotte, first of all: why did you decide to take part in Melodifestivalen again?
"I told everybody for years that I'd never take part again in Melodifestivalen, I know that. I did it once; I won it and I won the international contest as well. I could never improve that result as it already was the best result I could ever get. However, when Fredrik Kempe let me listen to 'Hero', I fell in love with it immediately. I just felt this was the song for me."
What's the difference between your participation in 1999 and 2008?
"There's a huge difference! Of course the contest has been undergoing several changes. But back in 1999 I didn't do a promo tour; I didn't even release an album. The whole idea of promo visits just didn't exist yet. This time I visited a lot of countries before the contest. I think it could be an advantage in the Eurovision Song Contest when people already know your song. A lot of people won't remember that I took part in 1999 as well, so during these promo visits I can refresh their memory. And of course I hope a lot of international radio stations will pick up my song."
You won the contest in 1999. Do you feel more pressure now to do well?
"Not for myself. I won the contest once already, so I already made it to the history books. If I do well again this year, it would be a very nice bonus. But I do feel some pressure from my home country. Everybody expects me to do well this year, but anything can happen in the Eurovision Song Contest. Of course I'm very happy with all the support in Sweden; apparently most of my fellow citizens believe in this song as well."
How about your stage performance in Belgrade? Will we get to see the same act as we saw during the final of Melodifestivalen?
"We won't change a lot. We will start the song in black and white again and there will be a laser show again at the end of the song. I will practically bring the same backing singers with me to Belgrade. However, there's a new girl who was one of my backing singers in Jerusalem as well. The only big difference will be my dress."

If she'd put Youdipphs dress on, she would win the Barbara Dex-award right away!
ol:
@Fabio Deluca: I'm not totally averse to the idea. That dress was great.
Nice work René!!
I really love Charlotte, cuz she's simply the best!
I hope she will win for Sweden, 'Hero' is one of her best songs!!
If she's gonna stand static in the middle of the stage, she should borrow the dress Youddiph used in 1994...
@Fabio Deluca: I disagree. I'd rather not see Charlotte jumping around on stage with her backers. ESPECIALLY because there are so many others doing it. You don't need a dance routine to get a good placing in ESC. I think Charlotte stands out from all those other performers in that she is quite "static" on stage. And if you want to stand out you really need to be different.
Hero isn't really a shake-it shake-it song. I find the routine to be quite appropriate. I'm glad that she's changing her outfit though. She could hardly move in that other one. But, who knows, this one might be worse...
How exciting.
@NORO MMMO: What's wrong with that? She's including all people in that statement, even immigrants who might not be considered Swedish but who hold Swedish passports.
It's a very Swedish thing to say. "Countrymen" or something similar implies that immigrants are not included and is therefore a racist thing to say (in Sweden).
charlotte is great!!!
Same backing singers...surely she can't use those two guys...
shes changing her dress/she wants to wear a longer one as she doesnt like her belly button showing
John Smith
You have done it better than me, it seems that you have already got it in your head, as it shows in your message below (Tue 6 May 2008 23:06:42) more than enough.
Thank you though.
"Most of my fellow citizens"..!?!.. She isnt planning to overthrow the king, is she?? Coup?
charlotte is amazing and she will do very well at the eurovision final!! goo sweden goo charlotte!!
Damn right she can't top her 1999 result, I hope she falls on her arrogant nose!
She shouldn't have bothered making that cd as it's crap..... And oh yeah read between the lines "I heard that song hero...", woman just admit that your career was in the slumps for years, you never had any success and so this is like your last hope to some new (very short) success... Sweden to stay in the semi this year... way too much competition in the second semi....
Go Sweden, But I still don't know whether to vote for Sweden or Ukraine . . . . . . . . aaah stuff it, I'll vote for both of them!!!
Good luck to Sweden from the UK!!!
Go Sweden i will vote for u LIKE 1000 TIMES
"The only big difference will be my dress"... I don't think the dance routine they used in the MF will make an impact in the public. It's not very much impressive. Countries like Iceland, Ukraine, Macedonia, Iceland, Czech Republic and Bulgaria have up-tempo songs as well, and with an spectacular performance they are able to cast a shadow over the Swedish entry, I think.
mmmmm.........
Sweden to win!!! Go go perelli!
Andorra the best. Gisela is fantastic.
good luck to our charlotte. since I cant vote for my home country I will be voting for my other favourite song : MALTA! VODKA.
Mmmm......
Great song, great performace and great singer. Sweden will do well this year.
There is no need to SHOUT!
IN MELODIFESTIVALEN 2008, MY FAVOURITES WAS DANIEL MITSOGIANNIS- VELVET - ESKOBAR AND ALSO CHARLOTTE PERELLI.GOOD LUCK TO CHARLOTTE IN SEMI 2 , BUT I WILL VOTE TO UKRAINE IN SEMI 2 .
