Yeah, I see what you mean, the dutch national final performance was much better. The 2001 was much too big and bland, I reckon Michelle would have been OK on a smaller stage, like the Talinn or Istanbul stage.
Oops, 'since the turn of the century', of course. I should stop trying to simultaneously work (= think of other things) and comment on this site ...
I liked Michelle's (the Dutch one) performance at the ESC mainly because she looked so lost on the huge stage. In fact, it was quite charming, so unpretentious an un-ESClike. For me it is still the best Dutch entry till the turn of the century. (Well, perhaps next to Edsilia last year, but then I might not be objective because Edsilia is such a lovely person, stunningly beautiful woman, and excellent live performer. If anyone else had sung 'On Top of the world' I would probably have thought it just plain boring.)
The Dutch song was "Out on my own". She performed first and drowned on that big stage in that big stadium. Besides, her performance at the Dutch national final was much better.

2001 was a very confusing year, there was 2 michelles, a song called "on my own and a song called "out on my own", and "on my own" was sung by one of the michelles, or was it "out on my own" she sang, I can never work it out!!!!
CONFUSING!!!
I agree
It is always a good idea to switch the sound off when Michelle starts to either sing or talk.
From y musical point of view, I preferred your Michelle to ours, I even called for her ... to no avail, as usual.
Apart from her chest, Michelle has a voice you either love or hate. I'm not too fond of it (to say it mildly). Besides, she was rude and arrogant against our own Michelle (the Dutch one), as could be seen on Dutch television when the two where introduced at each other in Copenhagen. She doesn't seem genuine to me. Artificial woman.
But that pink dress looked great on her.
I LOVE Baccara!!!
Loking forward to that eve avter so many years...
(if the original singers)
Btw, I really love your hatelist (and I do mean love), though I would exclude Michelle, because Terry Wogan introduced her with the words 'Michelle. A chest to remember'. She gave us this magical moment, this sentence to remember, and all of us should be grateful for it :-)

Thanks. It DOES always feel good to be reminded that one isn't a weird loner.
No togravus, you are not alone, that song is on my hatelist too. Look at my profile. :-) The main reason I hate it, is Maria's wannabe sexy voice.
I think I am probably the only ESC fan of the older generation who simply loathes 'Parlez-vous français'. The song is in my all time bottom ten. I really enjoyed 'Yes Sir' and 'Sorry' though ... when I was a nine years old boy who didn't know the first thing about quality and taste.
At least Maria is out. Her moaning irritates the crap out of me. And they were way out of tune in Paris. But they were the hot favourites to win because they were very famous all over Europe.
Well they had three bearable singles: Yes Sir la la la, Sorry I'm A Lady and Parlez-vous Francais.
The rest was....how should I put it....no I won't.
Anyway, good luck to the old girls.
their spanish accent in Parlez vous fraçais it's the most amazing part of the song. I'm so curious to listen the new cd :-)
I love their spanish accent in their textes. Without this accent this will be not like we know the two girls. I am curious as most the hits in German sound.
fabio.. why should they change their accent.. it is baccara's trademark!! as it is for mireille mathieu when she sings in german and for so many other...
Go Luxembourg, thinking of returning anytime soon???? (I have my fingers crossed!)
I hope they have improved their English pronunciation through these years. Everytime I play "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie" I think... "WTF?"
Fantastic ! ! Rolf Soja and Fank Dostal, the team behind all worldwide Baccara successes, back with Baccara! The CD surley will me a smashing success! I love Baccara since 1977 and i think it is great to see for how many years Mayte Mateos kept Baccara alive and successful. Baccara still travel the world with lots of Tv and live shows. Mayte's solo CD "Noche Latina" from 2004 is also wonderful.
oh, where is andi musson or his nic names, he loves baccara.
Soja also wrote the 1986 entry for France I believe, "Europennes",....
What wonderful News after such long Time. I really can't wait to get this CD with the original voice of Mayte Mateos. Mayte Mateos is for me real Baccara.... I wish Mayte Mateos and Paloma Blanco a lot of success with this CD.
This is very good news! I look forward to this CD of Baccara and the beautiful voice of Mayte Mateos
