Eurovision winners confirmed!

UK: Bucks Fizz to get the party going in London

A very special act will get the UK Eurovision Preview Party in full swing at Scala on Friday 25th April. The original Bucks Fizz, the United Kingdom's very own winners from 1981 will be performing as special guests at the party.

Bucks Fizz will need no introduction to fans at the UK Eurovision Preview Party. The band went onto international superstardom after taking the Eurovision Song Contest crown in 1981. A string of hits and successful albums followed. Mike Nolan, Cheryl Baker and Shelley Preston will open the show with a live performance for the fans.

They have also kindly donated a special Schalger remix of one of the remastered songs that will be played during the party next week and at Schlager parties here and in Sweden in future.

Next Month, they will release Bucks Fizz - The Lost Masters 2  - a double album and containing over 30 tracks through Sony BMG and Fat Dog Productions. It will include three new extended versions of the hits, Golden Days, Run For Your Life, and the smash hit number one song, Land Of Make Believe, as well as alternate mixes, demos, solo tracks, and a few suprises! The Album will be available to buy in stores or via itunes.

esctoday.com will be offering readers the chance to win copies of the CD before release, so stay tuned to the site for our Bucks Fizz - The Lost Masters 2 competition for a chance to win your copy of this double album with a 'Magical' touch.

Um - Celine Dion has had 5 number one albums in Britain whereas only one of Bucks Fizz's albums got as far even as number 10. Bucks Fizz had 7 top ten singles and Celine has had 14. Celine Dion has had 16 hit albums in the UK and Bucks Fizz have had 6. Celine has spent twice as long in the album charts and five times as long in the singles charts.

But most importantly Celine has had 27 hits in Britain and Bucks Fizz only 20. Nine of them didn't make the top 30. Where on earth do you get your facts from?

Cue the anti UK posts. Doh!

@ Fabio. I think you'd better look at the history books when it comes to Bucks Fizz hit singles, son. They are in fact the most successful Eurovision act in the UK since ABBA. No other Eurovision winner of the past 30 years - including Celine Dion - has had as many hits in Britain. So they weren't The Rolling Stones. Who cares? There's no need to diss them.

The Bucks Fizz never got to the status of 'international superstardom' as stated in the article. That's totally innacurate. Most of the singles/albums charted poorly even in the UK. The only 'hit' that survived through the years was "The Land Of Make-Believe", while the others (if they ever had any) were totally forgotten.

I hope my comment is not gonna be deleted again, I don't know what is so controversial in my words. In that case, I'd like some kind of explanation from the staff, because this is almost censorship.

I can't believe the negativity surrounding this item. It's a Eurovision party, for goodness' sake! Bucks Fizz are one of 5 UK winners and their song was a huge international hit. We should be thrilled that they are going to be there, and proud of them for winning in what was actually a very competitive year. They have appeared at many Eurovision events over the years and, like the Brotherhood of Man, are still happy to be associated with the Contest, unlike some of our other UK contestants and even some of our winners. The line-up at the Scala is fantastic, and all for just a tenner! (And no I don't work for them).

@ Owen Williams

Spot on, although don't go the whole way on that - let's not forget that the charts are usually also filled with a lot of rubbish. Yes from time to time there are gems but a lot of it always follows a trend and is very samey.

Music that sounds more present day is definitely one thing, but Eurovision would be bad if everyone sent chart topping singles and international/national superstars. A little bit of obscurity and something different is what makes ESC music great. Infact it's what makes music great as a whole. I find the best music comes from the artists and bands you have to dig a little deeper to find.

Why the hell be negative-the listed acts sound great and I have been a fan of Eurovision all my life but never been to a party....London is not the whole UK like some countries think but I will hopefully buy tickets and go for a brilliant line up beating most countries-from a Kingdom(UK)that send total crap due BBC every year.

@ Rob Dell

Also we (UK) be hosting the Summer Olympics the biggest sporting show in the world in 4 years time!

I know we have to move on. Thats does not stop us re-living the past! Mixing ESC history with the pesent is not a major crime, its boast to be a ESC celabration! Past and presant!

So just chill and have some fun!

P.s. How do we(UK) 'move on'?

Guys guys guys, chill out!
It's gonna be perhaps the best Euro-party ever, the more Euro-trash we can dig up and have on the night just makes the party even better than it already is. Every time a new act gets announced, im losing hair with excitement, ill be bald by next week. Please don't shed any darkness on this, this country needs an event like this, so show it some support.

Owen Williams [36362]

I agree with Ben
We REALLY do need to move on! Its one of the MAJOR reasons we haven't done well in the last few years because us (like a lot of the west) still sees ESC in those Bucks Fizz type days, when the music wasn't really what would usually do well in the charts but was good "ESC music", NOW we need things that would do well in the charts (not only in the UK and because of a gimmick but internationally) to even get top 15!

@ london calling
Eurovision ... football...

>>>> then you should get into something else - like cycling - we ruled the boards at the World Championships - 9 gold medals or something......
Or look to sailing or rowing......
Or even swimming - ok the USA and Australia etc... won more golds at the recent World short course champs but we won the most medals overall..

C'mon - stop moaning about everything - we do still do very well at some things. Besides, who's bothered about the overpaid prima donnas that play football

And lets not forget the music - Leona storms to No.1 in US with her debut album (after massive worldwide success), Amy Winehouse swept the Grammys (5?) and others such as Mika, Radiohead, Natashsa Bedingfield, Duffy etc etc are all going great guns...

It's not all doom and gloom.

Ben Gray [44512]

I wasn't moaning about them at all. I just said I should have seen it coming. I don't have anything against Bucks Fizz, although I do think, like the World Cup in 1961, (was it 61?) we badly need to move on.

Night Editor [45546]

@ London Calling: We can't be great at everything. We have to let others have a chance at winning Eurovision. After all we've won it five times and been second 15. I think we're just a sleeping giant. As for Bucks Fizz, it's great that they're still going. The UK is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't in some people's eyes.

@ Ben and London Calling

Eurovision ... football... we have nothing to shout about apart from moments of glory from decades ago. Sad really. But a reflection of how trapped we are in the past, unable to 'get' modern day Eurovision. Oh well..

Ben Gray [44512]
Thu 17 Apr 2008 21:23:10

Oh good lord. I should have seen that coming.
