Biography
t fourteen she was a member of her school's Big Band, and by the time she had graduated from high school she also finished her third year of singing classes. After graduation, she moved from Berlin to Slovenia to study Germanic languages.
She continued her singing classes, but also wanted to try her hand at a more popular musical style. Mainly out of curiosity, she accepted the invitation to join the musical group 4 Fun. They released two albums and had a few major hits.
In 1998 her first solo album entitled "Ljubim te" (I Love You) was released. This was followed by a series of performances and awards at many national and international festivals.
Karmen and EMA (the Slovenian national competition for the Eurovision Song Contest) have a long history together, this year with a happy ending. The first time she sang at EMA was in 1998. With her song "Ostani tu" (Stay Here) in 2001, she enchanted Stefan Raab, who performed in Ljubljana and was also preparing a segment for his show. She was invited to the international festival at Wörthersee. By winning with her EMA song she earned a place among the world-renowned performing artists of the final night (Right Said Fred, Lou Bega, Rednex and others).
At EMA 2002 she put in another brilliant performance with "Še in še" (More and More). This was followed by another EMA, when Karmen finally convincingly won with her song "Nanana".
Martin Stibernik was born in 1976 in Ljubljana. After graduating from both the secondary school for design and music school, he became a member of Slapovi (The Waterfalls), the most popular alpine folk music group of the last decade. Slapovi have numerous awards to their name, and have received two silver (2 500), one gold (5 000) and one diamond record (25 000) for their successful music sales. They are particularly proud of this achievement, because in the last ten years very few musicians in Slovenia have been this successful.
Martin plays diatonic accordion, which is the basic instrument of Slovenian alpine folk and ethno music. He has composed many songs.
A few years ago he started his own recording studio, and since then almost all the most popular Slovenian musicians have done some recording there. So Martin is an all-around producer, sound engineer, composer, and studio musician. As a writer of pop music and adaptations, he has written most of his hits for Karmen.
