Biography
Claudette Pace, whose name is to be pronounced the Italian way, is well-known to the Maltese public. Not only is she a successful singer, but a television presenter as well. Recently, she has even launched her own TV-channel called Max Plus. Moreover, she is somewhat of a regular at the Maltese ESC selections.
Since her début with the unplaced "You are my music" in 1993, she had had quite an impressive record in the contest: Runner-up in 1995 and 1996 with "Our love could never be" and "My butterfly" respectively, shared fifth in 1997 with "Love can do miracles", third in 1998 with "Listen to our voices" and fifth in 1999 with "Breathless".
Claudette, born in 1968, has studied jazz at music conservatories in both Germany and Italy, but will perform the Latino-inspired "Desire" on the Eurovision stage for Malta in Stockholm. The song is mainly in English, but has a short passage of Maltese in the middle.
Philip Vella and Gerard James Borg (pronounced Bore-sh) are both renowned songwriters in Malta. In particular Philip Vella has written many hits for the cream of Malta’s top performers, such as Lawrence Gray, Mark Tonna, The Incorvaja Sisters and Claudette Pace. In 1999, they wrote the song "Breathless" together for Claudette Pace, and this year their entry "Desire" was chosen as the Maltese entry for the first ESC of the new century.
