Biography
Doris Dragovic won the Croatian National Final, the Dora, by a landslide with the husband and wife penned song, Marija Magdalena. This is not Doris' first attempt at the title: she entered in 1986 for the former Yugoslavia with Zeljo Moja, a song which placed eleventh and which has remained a favourite with Eurovision fans ever since. Born in Split in 1961, Doris has been a popular recording artist in Croatia for many years.
Doris certainly woke up the show with a powerful performance of a big orchestra anthem and another cloak trick to match Danijela's from 1998. Of course her orchestra was on tape, and that backing tape proved be costly as objections raised to what was judged to be a male choir on it caused the song to be fined thirty points although the fourth position is retained.
