Biography
25-year-old Rui Bandeira was born in Mozambique although he was brought up in Portugal. He began playing piano at an early age and following twelve years of study he has since been composing his own music as well as performing in Gospel choirs. He is currently recording his first album.
This rocky number sounded a little amateur after the previous entries although Rui and his backing band appeared to have a great time on stage. As the voting progressed it looked almost certain to be a NUL point night for Portugal until the french surprised everyone by awarding it full marks. This remained their only vote and Portugal, after receiving a late place in 1999 following the withdrawl of Latvia, will now be absent from the contest for the first time since 1970.
