Biography
Marlain is best known for her stunning performance in the original version of Stavros Sideras's rock musical Pygmalion two years ago. She also sang last year at the Cypriot national final in a duet with Alex Panayi. Marlain is currently on a postgraduate course in Musical Theatre at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She graduated from the Boston Conservatory of Music in the USA last June, but in addition to her musical qualifications she also holds a BSc in Biochemistry and management.
One of the biggest mysteries of the 1999 contest has to be why this song fared so badly in the voting. Singing in languages other than english turned out to be a distinct disadvantage for any song in 1999, and being drawn between the eventual first and second place couldn't have helped either. Another theory is that the long ballad opening postponed the dance chorus too late to make any impact.
