Biography
Jasmine Tatjana Anette Valentin is her full name, and she is a talented singer even though she is only 20 years old. Her parents are of gypsy blood, and she has inherited their temperament and rhythm. Jasmine learned to play the guitar whilst she worked in a music shop, and soon began to play at gigs. One evening, she had to step in for the band's soloist, unaware that someone had invited a respresentative from a record company to hear her - and her singing career took off from there.
Timo Niemi (35) from the "jazz town" of Pori wrote both the music and the lyrics for this year's Finnish entry to the Eurovision Song Contest. Timo worked as a disc jockey for 15 years before becoming a full-time musician three years ago and forming the group called "Rio". In 1994 the group took part in Finland's Eurovision Song Contest heats. Besides Jasmine, Timo creates songs for other Finnish pop singers. He likes to spend his spare time at home, and is, in his own words, a magnificent chef. Sadly Timo Niemi died of cancer later in 1996. [Notes from the Official 1996 Programme by NRK]
