Biography
The band Münchener Freiheit has been at the top of the German music scene for a remarkably long time. They achieved immediate success in 1982 with their debut album 'Umsteiger' and were soon topping the charts not only in Germany but in Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands. Outside the German speaking countries they simply call themselves Freiheit. In 1987, together with the London Symphony Orchestra & The Jackson Singers, they recorded 'Keeping The Dream Alive'. The single was a huge success in Germany and went to number 14 in the British charts. Their fifth gold album, 'Ihre größten Hits', appeared in 1992 and they have been awarded the much coveted 'Goldene Stimmgabel'. The members of the group are Stefan Zauner (vocals), Aron Strobel (Guitar and vocals), Rennie Hatzke (drums), Michael Kunzi (bass and vocals) and Alex Grunwald (keyboards).
Composer Stefan Zauner has written both music and lyrics and has also arranged 'Viel Zu Weit'. He is a founder member of Münchener Freiheit and a multi-instrumentalist. His biggest international success has been 'Keeping The Dream Alive', which entered the top ten lists all over Europe.
Austrian-born Norbert Daum is a very experienced conductor and has arranged and conducted many Grand Prix presentations. [From the 1993 Programme by RTÉ]
