Biography
Tony Wegas (born Anton Sarközi) is from a Romany gypsy family of Hungarian origin. He is multi-talented and apart from singing, Tony acts, entertains and is guitarist in the band 'Tony Wegas, Feuerwerk'. Following his performance in the 1992 Contest in Malmö, ORF nominated him Austria's representative for this year's event in Millstreet.
Christian Kolonovits together with Johann Bertl wrote 'Maria Magdalena' - Christian is a sought-after producer (a.o. The Kelly Family), arranger and composer and is highly successful with the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra Project. Christian himself knows what Tony is going through tonight, as he himself entered for Austria in 1972 with the group Milestones. Johnny Bertl is a master of acoustics and a talented guitarist. He will be present in Millstreet as 'sound master' for the Austrian entry. 'Maria Magdalena' , one of seven songs commisioned by ORF, was chosen by listeners to the O3 Radio Station.
Thomas Spitzer, well known lyricist, is also a musician and is mastermind of the famous rock group 'Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung' (their Ba-Ba-Bankrobbery was even a minor hit in the UK). [From the 1993 Programme by RTÉ]
