Again, the system of the Icelandic national final has not changed: There were nine songs and the winner has been decided by the voting of eight regional juries and an additional expert jury.
The winners were Heart2Heart who actually competed under their real names Sigríđur Beinteinsdóttir & Sigrún Eva Ármannsdottir. Sigríđur Beinteinsdóttir has already represented her country in 1990 as part of the duo Stjórnin, Sigrún finished third in the 1991 Icelandic final.
Among the other contestants was Helga Möller, one of the members of ICY, the group that represented Iceland on its debut in 1986. Her and her duet partner Karl Örvarsson were the only ones to have two songs in the selection.
