Biography

DA VINCI was formed in 1982. Performances in TV programmes as well as the first single, released the same year, made the group very popular. One of the next singles "Hiroxima, meu Amor" won a Silver Record in 1982. Currently DA VINCI is producing a new LP "A Joia de Lotus". The group consists of Tei Or (singer), Pedro Luis (singer), Ricardo (guitar and voices), Sandra Phidalgo (chorus), Dora Phidalgo (chorus) and Joacquim Andrade (drums).

Ricardo was given his first guitar at 10, and already as a teenager was associated with various groups. In 1980 (he was just 18) Ricardo started his professional career with "INT". In 1983, he recorded two singles as a soloist. He met Pedro Luis, working with him and Iei Or as a guitarist and bassoon player and composer. Simultaneously, he formed the "Samurai", with whom he recorded an LP in 1987. He is now musician, arranger, producer-composer for record editors as well as with the group "Iberia".

In the seventies, Pedro Luis belonged to the popular symphonic rock group "Tantra" and worked as arranger and keyboard player with Carlos Mendes (Eurovision Song Contest 1968 and 1972) and Paulo de Carvalho (Eurovision Song Contest 1974; real name Paulo Dacosta). In 1982, he founded DA VINCI, of which he is the main composer, arranger and producer.

Luís Duarte was born 39 years ago in Lisbon. At 10 he started his musical studies at the Gulbenkian Foundation. He became a professional musician at 16. For 20 years he has been collaborating with RTP and was responsible for the selection of Portuguese songs for Eurovision for some years. Luís Duarte has many professional facets: orchestral musician, performer, composer, arranger and musical director. [Notes from the Official 1989 Programme]
