Biography
La Década was founded in 1985 by Manuel Santisteban. He began his musical career in jazz before moving to pop, and has won several awards for his work on film soundtracks.
Other members of the group include: Manuel Aguilar who is a key name in the world of Spanish pop music and Ana Neri, Cecilio Blanco, José Subiza and Carmelo Martinez, all of whom have been working in the pop music field from an early age.
The music was written by Enrique Peiro who comes from Alicante. At 13 he joined his local Municipal Band as percussionist. Later he studied at the Conservatory of Alicante where he was a member of a successful percussion group. His pop music career began in 1983 as producer/ arranger with an international music organisation and he has since achieved great success not only in Spain, but throughout Europe.
The lyrics were written by Francisco Dondiego who comes from Leon. Psychologist, painter, writer, composer and producer, he is one of Spain's most successful lyricists, and his songs are known around the world.
Javier de Juan is an important percussion and drums player in Spain's pop music scene, and is one of the founders of the group Cadillac (Spain 1986). He has also performed outside Spain with such famous musicians as Kevin Ayers of Soft Machine and Denny Laine of Moody Blues and Wings fame. [Notes from the Official 1988 Programme by RTÉ]
