Biography
In 1979 singer/songwriter Peter Koelewijn decided to form a new girl group. He brought together three young girls and named the group Babe. The group had some hits with songs like The Drunken Sailor and The Kiss (Viva Los Hombres). When at the end of 1981 lead singer of the group, Gemma van Eck, decided to leave for a solo career, Marga Bult (Marcha's real name) is brought in. With her the group enjoyed another string of hits like Indian Habits (Hooka Heya) and Dolly The Doll. When the group finally decided to call it a day in 1985, Marga started a solo career that only knew one minor hit so far: a duet with Peter Koelewijn, Als Het Anker Het Houdt, Wint Het Schip Van De Storm. And of course 1987's entry, Rechtop In De Wind.
Peter Koelewijn, the composer of this year's Dutch entry, is a singer himself. His career reaches back as far as 1960, when he and Zijn Rockets enjoyed their first chart success with Kom Van Dat Dak Af. Hits like Angeline (Mijn Blonde Sexmachine) and Veronica Sorry followed, before in 1975 Peter and Zijn Rockets decided to go separate ways. Not for long however, as in 1981 they reunited for another string of hits including live versions of Kom Van Dat Dak Af and Klap Maar In Je Handen. Since 1984 Peter sings solo again and enjoyed chart success with songs like Sprong In Het Duister and Oranje Is Oranje Blijft... Under the pseudonym Gompie he and the visitors of a bar in Nijmegen, Gompie, had a major chart success in 1995 all around Europe with Alice, Who The X is Alice? (Living Next Door To Alice). They adopted the pseudonym Cheers for the Dutch version, Alice, Ik Geef Geen X Om Alice (Living Next Door To Alice).
