Biography
The group Cocktail Chic consists of four young ladies: Francine Chanterau (the tall brunette), Martine Latorre (the small blonde), Dominique Poulain (the small brunette), and Catherine Bonnevay (the short-haired blonde). Dominique Poulain and Catherine Bonnevay are sisters, and also cousins to Francine and Martine. Needless to say, these four young ladies have known each other since their very early youth. It is maybe because of their close family ties that they have been singing together since such a young age.
The first to have recognized their talent was the late Claude François who asked them to perform for him as background vocalists when they were still in high school. Since then, thanks to their consistent practice of singing together, to their capability of reading music fluently, and to their well appreciated sound, they have never ceased to participate in records and popular shows of a great variety: Serge Lama (who represented France in the 1971 contest) , Michel Sardou, Richard Gotainer, Nana Mouskouri (who represented Luxembourg in the 1963 contest), Mireille Mathieu, Johnny Halliday, etc. They also sang in numerous commercials in France. In fact, at the present time, we can see Francine and Catherine sing with Jean-Jacques Goldman in the video clip "Les Restos du Coeur".
It is only this year, with the encouragements of their friends Georges and Michel Costa, that they decided to start a career as soloists. In a way, they were waiting to be really enthusiastic about a song or musical style before going into the difficult field of performing live as solo artists.
They recorded the song EUROPEÉNNES, and with this title having been selected among 14 songs presented at the French contest, Cocktail Chic will therefore represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest 86.
Michel and Georges are brothers. Ever since a very young age, they have been fascinated by music; as early as the 70's, they composed numerous songs for French artists such as: Mireille Mathieu, Sylvie Vartan, Marie Laforet and foreigners such as: Mary Roos (who represented Germany in the 1972 and 1984 contests), Caterina Valente, Massimo Ranieri (who represented Italy in the 1971 and the 1973 contests), etc....
Thanks to their common practice as a vocal team and to their professionalism, they participate as background vocalists for almost all the records and popular shows in France: They are seen notably with Johnny Halliday, Michel Berger, France Gall (who won the 1965 contest for Luxembourg with Poupée De Cire, Poupée De Son), Mireille Mathieu, Nana Mouskouri, Serge Lama, Michel Sardou, etc.... They have already participated in previous Eurovisions by accompanying three winners of this Contest: Anne-Marie David (Luxembourg), Marie Myriam (France), Corinne Hermès (Luxembourg).
They have recorded their own records under the name "LES COSTA" two records which were very successful in France: "COCOTIERS" and "MUSIQUE MAGIQUE". Working for a long time with the group COCKTAIL CHIC in background vocal studio sessions, they decided this year to write them the song "EUROPEÉNNES".
After studying solfeggio and piano, Jean-Claude Petit at the age of ten entered the Superior National Conservatory of Music in Paris where he successively obtained a first medal of solfeggio, then three first place prizes of Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue.
After having played since the age of 16 with the greatest American musicians (Johnny Griffin, Kenny Clarke, etc....) he became in 1968 the arranger of the greatest artists in show business. He signed the arrangements of: Julien Clerc, Serge Lama, Claude François, Mink Deville, Joan Baez, Michel Jonasz, Gilbert Bécaud, etc. In parallel, he conducts for classical recordings the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Opera of Paris, and composes many hit songs for Marie Laforet, Serge Lama, Claude François, etc.
We must add to this list his theatrical music for The Odeon and the French Comedy, Jazz Rock albums (one with the guitarist Philip Catherine) as well as television generics (Champs-Elysées, jingles Antenne 2). Ever since 1980, his career has been oriented towards the composition of music for movies and contemporary music. Just to cite a few: Tusk (Jodorowsky), L'Addition (Amar), Tristesse et beauté (Joy Fleury), Le Caviar Rouge (R. Hossein). [Notes from the official 86 programme by NRK]
