Biography
Bucks Fizz consisted of Jay Aston, Cheryl Baker, Bobby Gubby and Mike Nolan and was especially formed for the Eurovision Song Contest. A first option for one of the male members was Steve Fischer (Bardo, 1982), but as he wasn't available at the time, Bobby Gubby (or Bobby G as is his stage name) was chosen to complete the group. After winning the Eurovision Song Contest with Making Your Mind Up, the group went on to have hits with songs like The Land Of Make Believe, My Camera Never Lies and When We Were Young. Faced with a coach crash in 1984, the group's activities were put on hold for a short period. During this period Jay Aston left and Bobby G had a solo hit with Big Deal. Cheryl Baker made her first steps on the path to becoming a TV presenter. When Shelley Preston joined the group in 1986 they returned to the charts with New Beginning (Mamba Seyra). Shelley didn't stay long however and by 1990 the group was a trio once again. Cheryl followed Shelley soon afterwards concentrating full-time now on her career as a TV presenter. After touring with two new girls, Mike and Bobby went separate ways with their own sets of Bucks Fizz. Bobby with the girls Amanda and Heidi, Mike with the girls Sally and Lianna. David Van Day (ex-member of Guys 'n' Dolls (A Song For Europe 1979) and Dollar) toured with both sets of the group, singing also some of the Dollar hits with them. In 1998 with David Van Day and Amanda leaving the Bobby G outfit, they were replaced by Louise and Graham. While now permanently being with the Mike Nolan outfit David recorded a 1998 version of Making Your Mind Up and a full album with them.
