Biography
Björn Skifs and Bengt Palmers were no strangers to each other, when they met each other on the Eurovision stage in this year's contest. Four years earlier Björn Skifs played in the band Björn Skifs & Blablus (after stints with the Slam Creepers and a decidely unsuccessful solo career). Bengt Palmers, then head of A & R for EMI Records in Sweden, really liked what he heard, when he heard Jonathan King's version of the B.J. Thomas original Hooked On A Feeling. Bringing the song to the attention of the group, they decided to record it after a while. The song became a huge hit for the group in Scandinavia and an American release was considered. Now there was a need to change the name of the group and Björn Skifs and Blablus became Blue Swede. By pure coincidence Sweden was in the picture all around the world on 6 April 1974. On that day ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest for Sweden with Waterloo and Blue Swede topped the US charts for one week with their version of Hooked On A Feeling. Blue Swede went on to have hits with songs like Never My Love. Accidentally Blue Swede not only produced Björn Skifs as a Eurovision star. The man that would conduct many Swedish entries into the Eurovision Song Contest, Anders Berglund, was keyboardist with Blue Swede. Anders and Björn would reunite with Bengt for the Eurovision Song Contest 1981 to produce the song Fångad I En Dröm.
