Biography

Teach-In consisted for the Eurovision Song Contest of Chris de Wolde, Getty Kaspers, John Gaasbeek (son of Helen & Fred Gaasbeek who had a hit in 1966 with Corsica D'Amore in duet with popular Dutch singing couple Gert & Hermien), Ruud Nijhuis, Koos Versteeg and Ard Weeink. Getty Kaspers was born in Austria. The group came to prominence in 1971, when they had their first minor hit Spoke The Lord Creator. It wasn't until 1974 however, when they hit it big with Fly Away, In The Summernight and Tennessee Town. In 1975 they won the Dutch pre-selection with Ding-A-Dong, a song that originally was in Dutch and called Dinge-Dong. Being their biggest hit so far, they followed this pan-European hit with Goodbye Love and Rose Valley. Due to some conflicts Getty left the group in early 1976, shortly afterwards followed by her friend John Gaasbeek and Ard Weeink. The three remaining men recruited the two girls Marianne Wolsink and Betty Vermeulen and bassist Hans Nyland. This sextet went on to have some hits like Upside Down and Greenpeace. In 1980 this line-up finally called it a day. 1997 saw the original Teach-In reunite for a last tour, after which Getty left Holland to return to Austria.

Eddy Ouwens and Dick Bakker also wrote the 1978 entry for Harmony, 'T Is OK. Besides that Dick Bakker wrote the music to the 1982 entry Jij En Ik by Bill van Dijk.
