Biography
Sandra & Andres were Sandra Reemer (born 17/10/50 in Bandung, Indonesia) and Dries Holten. Sandra Reemer was already an experienced singer, before she met Dries Holten in 1966. Shortly after she and her parents moved from Bandung to the Netherlands in 1958 she achieved her first success as a solo singer with her version of Betty Curtis' 1961 Italian entry Al Di Là. And that very song started her life as a professional singer who would participate in the Eurovision Song Contest three times herself. When she and Dries Holten finally met in 1966, they not immediately decided to form a duo. The first single of the duo in 1968, Storybook Children, was a top 10 hit in the Netherlands and singles like Let Us Pray Together and Love Is All Around followed this song into the charts in 1970. In between Dries Holten tried his hands on a solo single in 1969 with Zij Is Verliefd Op Een Frikandel, but this attempt flopped. After their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1972 the duo had several other hits. Among these was a song called Auntie that saw Sandra & Andres team up with Vicky Leandros (Luxembourg 1967 and 1972) and Alice Babs (Sweden 1958) amongst others. In 1975 Dries Holten replaced Sandra by Rosy and formed with her the duo Rosy & Andres, who like Sandra tried to enter into the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976 with I Was Born To Love You. Sandra won the battle however with The Party Is Over Now. The start of the 80's saw Dries Holten return to the Dutch album charts with Ramé Ramé, an LP with traditional Indonesian songs.
