Biography
Vicky (born Vassiliki Papathanassiou on 23/08/52 on Corfu), or Vicky Leandros as she was called later on in her career, was the daughter of Greek singer and producer Leo Leandros. Leo Leandros - himself already having a deserving career in Germany - decided to promote his singing daughter there as well and the first hit was 1965's Messer, Gabel, Schere, Licht. The song was followed in 1966 by Wenn Du Geh'n Willst. Aimed to be a success all over the world, L'Amour Est Bleu was sung by Vicky in as many as 19 languages. The only country however where L'Amour Est Bleu sold heavily was Canada. It took one year and orchestras of Paul Mauriat and Manny Kellem or vocal versions by Al Martino and Claudine Longet to make L'Amour Est Bleu a big hit. Paul Mauriat's version L'Amour Est Bleu (Love Is Blue) reached number one in America in February 1968.
