The very first Swiss national final in the history of the contest was held in Lausanne, the host of the show is not known. Three singers took part: Lys Assia with five songs (she was the only singer with a backing group: Quinteta Radiosa), Jo Roland also with five songs and Anita Traversi, who would represent Switzerland in 1960 and 1964 presented only one song. Worth noting: Three of the four official languages were represented in the selection: While Lys Assia chose songs in French, German and Italian, Jo Roland sang only French. Anita Traversi sang in Italian. All in all, seven of the eleven songs were in French, a balance that would be held over the years.
The way the winners were chosen is not known anymore.
Trivia: Lys Assia would win the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Refrain. In the national final it was actually called Refrains, but dropped its s for some reason.
