My story
Edwin van Gorp
My story? Well, I am from Tilburg in the Netherlands and the Eurovision Song Contest is a big part of my life. Age and occupation and so on can be found above here.
My life is being dominated by four big issues.
First of all, my family. I am married and together with my wife Ingeborg (19-11-1970) I have 3 children, Robin (M, 4-2-1998), Yannick (M, 30-05-2000) and Elise (F, 11-07-2004).
Second, the Eurovision Song Contest, see below.
Third, my job, which takes a lot of time but I enjoy it very much.
Fourth, I am a big fan of the footballclub in my hometown, Willem II, that plays in the highest Dutch division. In 1999, they played in the Champions League.
What about the Eurovision Song Contest. I got to watch it for the first tome in 1977 and I loved it from the word "go". I enjoy music, history, statistics and so on, and all that comes together in my ESC-hobby.
In 1992 I joined the Dutch Eurovision club Eurovision Artists as member and started to really collect singles and videos of the contest.
In 1997 I started a website called "The Netherlands and the Eurovision Song Contest".
In 1998 I was asked to join the board of Eurovision Artists, as chief-editor of the magazine EA-nieuws
In 1999 I started a Dutch mailinglist about the Eurovision Song Contest, called "Een_beetje".
In 1999 I won the first Eurovision Song Contest quiz on Dutch television: "De songfestivalkenner van de eeuw show".
In 2002 I started the website for Eurovision Artists, at the same time, I closed my own site.
In 2002 I joined the editor-team of Esctoday, this website. At this moment I am mostly occupied with the History-section
In 2003 I was chosen as the new president of Eurovision Artists
Looking at the above "biography" you can tell that the ESC is a big part of my life. And, although the contest has changed a lot in recent years, I still enjoy watching it every year. I was present at one ESC myself, in 2001 in Parken in Kopenhagen, an amazing experience!
My favourite ESC-song comes from 1972: Falter im Wind by the Milestones (Austria)
BTW, I hate the picture above (taken from a televisionprogram) but it was the only one I could find on short notice........
